I have a 4 week old baby who aspirated this morning. I have kept close check on her all day and hoping and praying that she does not catch Pneumonia. I faced her head down and kept her sneezing and blotting off the milk coming out of her nose until nothing else came out. I got a new nursing nipple in today and she was able to take hold of it really quickly and easily and sucked too hard causing it to come out of her nose... she has acted fine all day long but I am terrified she will become sick. she weighs 50 grams. Tomorrow is Sunday so all vet offices are closed if something does change for the worse. What can I do in preparation for if she does become ill?
Thanks!

What kind of syringes do you have and what nipple.
We've noticed that some of the syringes we have recently
bought are TOO smooth, causing aspiration.
You will need ONE Cipro (human antibiotic) many times given for UTI's in humans,
Or Baytril (animal antibiotic).
Do you have any left over antibiotics yourself, call family and friends to see
what they have. We will need the mg of the pill and then we can break down
and dose if necessary.

I have 3cc and I thought I had bought a 1cc but when it came in was a .5 cc. I will be getting a 1cc today. Also, that nipple is the Miracle nipple "mini" size. I don't have any antibiotics and ccan't find anyone who does : would a tractor supply carry the baytril or anything I can use? She is still doing good this morning. Ate well, potties and there is currently no clicking sounds.

The lack of clicking is a good thing! The only potential for finding antibiotics without a prescription is to check at the local pet stores for products called Fish Flox (ciprofloxacin), Fish DOxy (Doxycycline) or Fish Mox (Amoxicillin)... I think in that order of preference / effectiveness in AP. These fish products can be ordered on-line if you are not in immediate need of the meds (a squirrel with AP needs to be treated within hours, not the days it would take to receive an on-line order).

Hopefully you are using the o-ring type syringes. No matter what type though it's always advisable to maintain control even if it means pulling back on the syringe slightly. No clicking is good. Sometimes they can get a nose full of formula but it doesn't actually go into the lungs causing pneumonia. Just keep a close watch for other symptoms like lethargy and lack of appetite.

OK, I will order some fish flox on express right now! She is still doing good, but I want to be prepared just in case! Thanks so much!

I found this purchasable online. Do you think it would work the same?
