Found a young but pretty much grown male squirell in my front yard 2 days ago. He was in the yard with my cat. My neighbor said that he left to go to the store and saw 3 neighborhood cats looking up at a tree then he pulls back in his driveway to see me with a towel picking up a squirell. It could be related im not sure.
Anyways, its been 2 days now ive been leaving him alone for the most part. He is keeping circulation to his feet. He is pooping but it is very dark, dry and hard looking not sure if that is normal. Im not sure if hes peeing. I bought some liquid calcium today and ive been putting him out with the box out in the sun for 20 minutes everyday.
So far he's been eating banana chips, some peach and i have spinach in there now. Ive read kale is good?
Ive had baby squirells before when we actually knocked the bird house down or after a bad storm but ive never really dealt with this. Looking for advice as far as what I need to do. Thanks yall:)

Where in LA are you located? We might have a rehabber nearby who could help you. Those who suffer this sort of injury need very special care and medication if there is to be any hope for their recovery. First thing though, don't bring him outside in the sun. That is way too stressful for a prey animal and will hinder his recovery. No need for calcium at this point except in his food. It was an injury, not MBD when it is a wild. I have had several make a full recovery from this sort of thing, but many who did not get the proper care, do not recover.
Thank-you so much for helping this guy! We will be happy to help you to get him what he needs!

While they are looking for a rehabber to take the squirrel.... do you happen to have access to any Prednisone? - this medication could help him get some movement back if the injury is not to severe.
You would need to know his body weight for someone to dose the medicine for you.

I am not sure. Can it be found at a feed store? I'll look it up and call around tomorrow

I'm not sure........ I take it for my RA, so i have it on hand.
A vet can give it to you for your dog, or squirrel. :)

Prednisone is definitely prescription only. Ask around to friends who might have asthma or respiratory issues. Also for older dogs or cats so ask pet owner friends. The tablets come in MANY different strengths and it is very important that you do NOT give without proper breakdown and dosing instructions. You can also ask friends if they have Meticam (pet) or Meloxicam (human) anti inflammatory med. You must NOT use Prednisone and either of those meds together so don't give anything until you have help with dosing etc. I'm sorry if it feels like I am being to specific, but these are things that we have seen go wrong before and I want to be sure that you and your pal do as well as is possible.
Is it possible for you to video and or photograph your friend? A picture is truly worth a 1000 words and for this stuff it is truly invaluable in helping your patient.:Love_Icon
