I rescued a baby about two weeks ago. He was injured mildy from a bite. He was only about 4 weeks. I got him healed and he was doing great then he aspirated and I believe he has pneumonia now. My question is about an antibiotic I already have from a kitten we rescued a month ago. It's not the one I hear about on here. I looked it up and it said could be used for pneumonia but I would like to have someone more qualified confirm. It's called Albon. And if is safe what would the dose be? Thank you!

Is there anyway that you can ONE Cipro (Human antibiotic) Or Baytril (Animal)
That would be the choice drug for aspiration pneumonia.
We need a weight on your squirrel in grams and the strength of the Albon in mg.
in order to accurately dose.

Someone will be on soon this morning to help you out with the medicine..... in the mean time may I ask if you are hearing any clicking or wheezing coming from the squirrel?

Yes, but not all the time. But he was really tensing up, like he was having trouble breathing or choking. I thought I was loosing him. He was having a hard time late last night but has seemed to settle down this morning. He wouldn't eat yesterday but ate some this morning. I gave him pedalite last night. I gave him a very small, like .1 bit of the antibiotic so I think this is helping but I am so scared and dont want to hurt him.

I asked above, post #2 if you have a weight on him and the strength of the med.
We can dose him properly if you let me know the above.

I don't have weight. I know he is about six weeks. From eyes opening a week back. Let me see if I had be a scale. He has been healthy until now and I was feeding according to a age chart. Let me see if I can find a scale.

Can you post a photo of the med. with the label?
I need the strength.
We feed squirrels according to their weight.
I will be back on later.
The chart below reflects the "rule of thumb" for feeding formula. Weigh the squirrel in grams and give ~ 5-7% of their body weight in formula (mLs/cc's) as reflected on the chart below. https://nmognoni.smugmug.com/Feeding-Chart/i-JsmjnNr/0/X2/001-X2.jpg

If so, the 5% is 250mg/5ml OR 50mg/ml.

Does the bottle tell of what it's 5% of? Critical to helping this guy.
Also, by chance are you using the 1cc per week feeding chart? :thinking How much does he get?

IF the med is 50 mg/ml the dose will be 0.12 for a 120 gram squirrel.
I am posting this here in case you have any questions and I'm not on the board.
Keep this little one well hydrated while on this drug, always provide extra water.
Give a loading dose ONCE now at 0.24
then subsequent doses every 12 hours in the amount of 0.12

Great! Thank You so much! To answer the question above, yes, he drinks about 4-5cc per feeding. (not the last day though) I am giving him pedialite and water today. He is pretty wobbly but is not lethargic any longer. I ordered the formula nipples and syringes through Fox Valley yesterday, and rushed so should have today. Is their formula better than the puppy?

He should be getting between 5-7% of his body weight, so 120grams * 5% (or 7%) is 6ccs (up to 8.4cc) per feeding, NOT the 1cc per week of age.
What FV did you order? 32/40 or 20/50?
Many of us mix 50/50 Esbilac and FV 20/50 as it's a nice mixture of the fats, proteins, probiotics, etc - if you ordered the 32/40 RETURN IT IMMEDIATELY!! This will KILL your baby!

I got the 20/50. I am about to try and fed him so I will do that. Mix the two. I am just giving him what he will eat right now. But I will get him to this amount soon. How often should he be eating ?

Around every 4 hours, skipping overnight. As long as he isn't compromised at all. If he's dehydrated or sick or anything, I'd give the feeding and/or water at night
Start off mixing the two slowly. 75% Esbilac + 25% FV for a few feedings then 50/50
