Need rehabber near Hickory, NC

Found a baby squirrel and have never cared for one before. I'm not sure how to help it or if I should just let it go. It has a small cut on its belly that isn't very deep, I think from a cat. I looked in surrounding trees and the area for a nest and the mama, and no where in sight. Someone please help me care for the little guy!

Please don't let this little guy go. Someone should be on soon who can help you find someone local.

For now, please place him in a plastic box with some old shirts or some blankets - no towels - with a heating pad half under the container.

Can you post some pictures of him?

I wish I were closer but I am about 3 hours away; I cannot make that drive as I have too many squirrels to care for.


If you could post pictures that would help tremendously... if you cannot post e-mail them to squirrelhelp @ uysinc .com (without the spaces) and I will post them for you.

Do you have any antibiotics at all? Sometimes folks have a few pills left over... if not ask friends and family. Cipro, Augmentin, Amoxil... if you find anything let use know.

The baby probably needs some hydration:

Homemade Rehydration Fluid

1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 tablespoons sugar or apple juice (I like to use Honey)
2 cups warm water
Store in refrigerator. Discard after 24 hours.

Note: If the baby refuses fluids, try leaving out the salt.
