hi everyone, i live in colorado and found a baby squirrel around 4/5weeks old? 60-65g. after re hydrating she was 71g. its only been a few days and i noticed today that she started noticeably clicking/gasping slightly which sounds like the aspiration pneumonia. i cant find any where near me that sells baytril, an the only place that rehabs is miles away. trying to figure out how to get the meds she needs vets wont help. i will contact the rehab place when they are open to see what they will/can/would do, as i dont want to give her up to be euthanized or just let die which seems like what the vets near me will do.

so the real question is if i cant get anyone near me to help, will ordering meds online help or idk how long/fast they can/do decline?
shes now 91g still going pee not much poo. i would prefer to get her back on track to release her here but wont do so if its going to risk her life waiting for meds. any help is appreciated!

ps. i tried to see if mom would come back found out she was eaten by someones dog, and the siblings didnt come down till late day/night and were found the next day but already passed.

Do you have any Cipro? --if not check and see if any of your friends or family members has any Cipro laying around from an old prescription...... you can treat your squirrels pneumonia with it.

i dont have any meds, i just found out a friend might have something for bacterial infection on rats eyes i will see if i can get the info on it when i get ahold of them to see if its even ok to use if they still have it. i will check with more places and see what any other vets say i might just say its for a rat to see if i can get it that way? but will still check with the rehab place to see what they will do.

do you know how fast they decline? if i cant get help will i have enough time to order online an save her?

Aspiration pneumonia takes them down fast, it is unlikely you would have any time waiting on mail.
Let us know whatever kind of anti biotic med you can find animal or human we can tell you if it can
be used and how it needs to be broken down and dosed.
In the meantime, we will need a weight on the baby to dose. All medications for squirrels are dosed
by their body weight.

If you have a pet store or aquarium supply store you could use Fish Flox(same as Cipro).

thanks for the heads up i will use it for next time. i got a hold of the rehab place and made the drive to them and they put her on meds and oxygen just to be safe. i would have loved to kept her but wasnt going to wait longer looking for meds just in case i couldnt get any.

shes a fighter so i hope she pulls through. they had just hit 100 squirrels they are caring for atm so at least she will have plenty of friends. thank you for the info and help
