I have a 5 week old baby, his eyes opened yesterday. Since his eyes have opened, his little personality has changed. He wants his face hidden all the time. I also noticed he has started chirping and making more noises since eyes opened. Also, immediately after he eats he wants to sleep. I don't know if it is him grunting or the clicking sound. I can feel the vibrations when he makes the noise, but it is not all the time. He has had the Esbilac formula for puppies, until I can get the FV formula in. He has had the formula come out of his nose when the syringe got stuck and I had to push:nono This is the 5th squirrel that I have taken care of until I released them. Please let me know what I should do!

Is he on the powdered puppy esbilac.
What size syringes are you using.
Are you using a nipple?
They need to be good quality O ring syringes.
You can get them at
https://www.squirrelsandmore.com/collections/miracle-o-ring-syringes/products/3cc-slip-tip-oring-syringe-single
or
http://www.henryspets.com/
Check around with friends and family for Baytril (Animal antibiotic) or Cipro (Human) or Clavamox (animal Antibiotic) or Augmentin (human)

Yes powder, 3cc syringe and I just got new O ring syringes. I am heading to the post office to weigh him 😊 I think I have Cipro at home. I will check and reply with weight and if I have it.

You should get a small gram scale so that you can weigh him to know
how much he should be eating. :thumbsup
We typically feed 5-7% of their body weight.
These scales can be found in most stores like Walmart, Bed Bath and Beyond etc.
in the ktchen section.

Just got one, he weighs 80 grams. Is that right for his age?

And he is eating between 3 and 4 CC's per feeding so it sounds about right. And he also doesn't make the noise if he's sleeping it's only after he eats and I'm holding him.

Rule of thumb for 80 grams (5-7%) he could have 4 - 5.6 ccs at each feeding, depending on how often you feed him.
You don't want to feed too soon or too late.
Is he a fox squirrel?
His weight is on the light side regardless of if he's grey or fox.
How often do you feed him?
How long have you had him?
Weight Chart:
Based on --Wild Mammal Babies 2nd Edition

5 weeks: between 120 & 150 grams
6 weeks: between 150 & 250 grams

A week as of today. Someone else wanted to try and rehab him when they found him and after he was dehydrated brought him to me. Every 3-4 hours. I am pretty sure just a regular Fox squirrel.

He just ate 4.5 cc's. His little tummy gets so round. Like a full balloon.

See picture. I am scared 4 cc is too much. And I think he is a grey squirrel.

You have to increase the formula amount slowly.
You don't want the tummy hard and bloated.
IF he still seems hungry after you've given an amount
he can safely handle, try stimulating him. Sometimes just
getting their mind off of eating for a few minutes, is enough
to make them KNOW they really don't want more. IF he
wants more after stimulation, give it, but in a very small amount to start.
I would feed him every 4-5 hours, at this age there's really no need to
feed him every 3-4.
He was eating between 3-4 cc's so the jump to 4.5 was too much for him
too quickly. Spread out the time a little, and see if that helps.
And he is eating between 3 and 4 CC's per feeding so it sounds about right. And he also doesn't make the noise if he's sleeping it's only after he eats and I'm holding him.

OK! Perfect and thank you!!!! I did talk to a vet yesterday that will treat him if necessary. He isn't making the sounds all the time, I think it is just him talking. He does seem to "chew" while sleeping. Guessing that is just like us grinding our teeth. Now, if I can get my horses hoof healed I will be able to sleep at night THANKS TO ALL
