View Full Version : Bloody poop?

I found some blood on my balcony. It was just one little puddle about 2 inches in diameter. There was what looked like one tiny poop in the center of it. Other than blood, there appeared to be something whitish mixed in. I am wondering if anyone else has seen anything like this before, and what it might be? What might be causing this?

I do not have surveillance on that side of the balcony, but I do have a camera on the other side. I am watching footage right now, hoping for a clue about what happened. If I had to guess, I would say that a squirrel ate something that made him/her bleed. I have never seen anything like this before, and am open to suggestions about what can be done.

The thing that looked like a poop, "the poop-like thing," is shown on a finger below.

You can see the whitish stuff in the below pictures.

I mashed the poop-looking thing between my fingers looking for clues as to what the problem was. I found one of these things, pictured below, in it. They feel solid and sharp. Perhaps they are seeds of some kind? Only one of them was from the poop-like thing found in the blood. The other ones shown were identical, but from a different area of the balcony in a greenish puddle.

Could it be red from berries? Could those black things be seeds?

In the pictures, does that look like a lot of wet red stuff for berries? I thought it was too much for berries to be a possibility. While it looks just like blood, the lack of a scent isn't helpful. There is no obvious scent. This may or may not be a clue. I provided some hard shell pecans and black walnuts if that's any help. I don't suspect either has anything to do with this, but I don't know. Very confused and concerned.

Edit: Are you thinking of any specific kind of berry? Let's see, we have ivy, beech trees, ash trees (I think), oak trees, various vegetable gardens... I will do some exploring.

Well is it RED, red? Or turning that rust color? Blood in stool can range from black to bright red, but blood sitting around usually changes to a dull, darker color and doesn't stay that pretty bright red.

That's why I thought may be berries instead of blood. Kind of hard for me to tell from the photos though. May be put it on a white paper towel, that would make it show up really well.

It started out as red red, then turned rust color with time, actually in only about 30 minutes of time.

I have no clue what this is. My biggest concern is that it is blood, and it looks like what the title says. It's strange that it doesn't smell like blood. Also, it didn't leave much of a stain on the wood it was on. A while back there definitely was blood on my balcony which smelled like blood, but those stains are much darker than this stain. Then again, this time around, if it was blood, it was mixed with some kind of white liquid (maybe intestinal mucus or digested food) and what looked like a little poop. The hard things, pictured above, definitely resemble seeds - if they are seeds, I'm unsure if they were ingested and excreted or spit out, or something else.... Maybe I'll never know. What I really care about is identifying that a squirrel needs help, if one truly does. I'm moving soon, and getting ready to discourage squirrels from coming to my balcony, so I really wish I could figure this out fast... But it is what it is.
