All,
I'm coming back to the forum in 1 year.
Yesterday I found a baby squirrel in my back yard grass yelping with no parents to be found. It has his eyes open and about the size of your hand... I would say no older then 5 to 6 weeks. It didn't bite me or have any hostile intentions and seems to like to be rubbed.
I'm looking around for any other squirrels around and no luck. No matter how much it yelps, nothing comes to it.
I've taken it in and started the formula feeding with the proper syringes and nipples.... it doesn't seem to like it since it isn't use to it but it does chomp and lick when I put a drop of formula on the top of his mouth.
Any suggestions?

What formula are you feeding?
Make sure the formula is warm enough.
Would you like us to try to find a rehabber?
Here's a link to great information on baby squirrels.

Welcome back!
We have some wonderful rehabber members in Maryland and would be happy to draw their attention to this thread. This little guy should be raised with others his age, so that when he is released he knows that he's a squirrel. If you can post a picture of him, that would help us a lot!

Hi, I am in Maryland. Is there anything I can do to help you? I am in the College Park area, what area are you in? sounds like you have good supplies. Have you hydrated this baby? Let me know if I can be of any help.
Can you post any pics?

Yes the little one is doing great. He is quite affectionate and wants a lot of rubbing. I'm feeding it with a syringe and it is baby kitten milk/powder. Loves it and is eating up to 12mls per feeding.
I'm not planning on raising it and looking for someone responsible to take it. I'm in Columbia Maryland.

Hopefully we have someone close to you so it can have some buddies to grow up with.
Kitten formula is not good and will probably cause an upset stomach. Powdered Esbilac for puppies with pre and probiotics is the best but since you are trying to find another rehabber the homemade goat's milk formula would be better than the kitten formula.
Jackie's Goat Milk Recipe
1 cup goats milk
1/3 cup heavy cream
1/3 cup dannon all natural vanilla yogurt
Mix well and keep in a covered plastic or glass container in the refrigerator. Replace after 48 hours.

It's just a matter of time until complications from the kitten formula presents itself. It will lead to digestive issues, stunted growth and does not have the nutritional balance a squirrel needs. Esbilac puppy formula (or Fox Valley 20/50) with pre and pro biotics is whats recommended for a squirrels nutritional requirements.

I am half an hour away from you. What do you say that we get this little one living with other babies his age so he knows squirrel behavior. If we wait much longer, the squirrels will not accept each other!

Seung,
It has been raining babies in Maryland. Most of the rehabbers in this state are not taking babies, or will take them from the public and euthanize them. If you don't believe me, there is a rehab center right near you in Columbia. Call that one and all you will get is a recording saying they are full. The center in Washington D.C. is not taking any baby squirrels, yup, full. The one in Gaithersburg you can take your baby to, but I can guarantee she will never see the trees.
All the babies that are coming in now will need to be over wintered. I have space for two more babies, it is a first come first serve. Let me know if you want me to take your baby. Please don't wait to let me know. If those spots get filled I can not just 'squeeze' in another baby.

Contact has been made. Hopefully UDoWhat will pick up after work!
Thank you Seung for helping to get this baby back to the trees.

Here is the precious little boy. He has had a rough beginning. We think he is between 7.5 - 8 wks. He weighed in at 108g. He is extremely mouthy, trying to nurse or bite constantly. Maybe once he gets some regular chow he'll outgrow that.
