Hi, a little brief back story. Joey was found on August 11th have fallen out of a tree and sustained an injury to his arm. Eyes and ears closed. Did the normal protocols. He was on amoxi-clav for possible infection and infant ibuprofen drops as directed for pain. From that time he's had mushy poop. Not watery, just mushy it smears everywhere don't climb on me baby squirrel cuz you're covered in poop type poop. I believe the abs and ibuprofen caused it however he's been off of them for a week+ now and it's still the same. No improvement using the Brat diet of adding rice cereal and baby bananas to his formula. His poop turned a pukey green which I attributed to the rice cereal, came to find out it's the bananas. Ran out for a feeding and the next poop was the mustard yellow but still smeary. Eyes and ears open on/by the 18th of August. He is on Esbilic at the normal ratio. He is 215 grams weighed shortly before writing this. He is eating right at 13 ml of formula and seems to really like the mixture. Fed every 4 hours except through the night. I have started HBs a couple of days ago but so far he just plays with them, he hasn't quite learned to sit up right while holding something but getting there. I have added yogurt back into the mix yesterday and still no change. On top of it his poor butt is red and squeaks when I try to wipe it so we've resorted to sits baths in warm water to let him soak and rinse (he hates this). No soap of any kind. Arm injury has healed well, hematoma is completely gone and has full use of his arm the same as the other. Fingers open, grasp and hold like they should. I'm not sure what else to add but need suggestions on what to do next. The following photos depict the mess and his red rear end.

Sometimes just stopping it with an anti-diarrheal will actually FIX it. Have you tried either kaopectate or pepto bismol? He can have 0.3cc of either up to 4 times per day, but what I like to do is watch to see when it has actually passed through - you will know, because both products will turn the poop BLACK (don't freak out). Once you see that, monitor the poops and if they are still very soft give a little more - you can even split the dose - and monitor some more. It usually doesn't take more than a couple doses to do the trick.
If there is some problem - parasites, etc - it will return, but sometimes they get the short term runs and get so raw from it that it actually makes the diarrhea persist.
Extra hydration during poop problems, too.

I did try the Pepto at that dosage for a couple of days and there was no change. And is there any ointment I can put on his raw rear end?

If you have silvadene that is wonderful. If not, a little bit of neosporin - not a gob of it, just enough to coat the skin - will be fine.

He was on amoxi-clav for possible infection and infant ibuprofen drops as directed for pain.
From that time he's had mushy poop.
This is obviously caused from the meds and we know ab's can mess with their gut flora.
He's off meds now and we just have to get things back in balance. I sent you pm with a
few suggestions and we'll see how that goes. I commend you for your patience with this
little guy, he's a lucky little boy to be in such caring hands. :grouphug

[I]Did you have Joey on probiotics when he was on the Clavamox?
When on any antibiotic, we need to give probiotics 2 hours prior or
2 hours after dosing.
How long has he been off of the Clavamox?

Update on Joey: Whatever was causing the smeary poop is no longer an issue, his poops are normal finally although on the darker side which I'm sure is due to the extra foods added into his formula. I'm still baffled by what was causing it but he's doing well. Three feedings now with normal bm's. At this point should I discontinue anything? I'm almost of a thought of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." He does have Henry's Blocks in his cage but for the moment they just sit or he plays with them. Those were started a few days ago.

This is a great update. The dark poop is from the Pepto, so not to worry.
What exactly are you giving him now to help with the soft poop; Pepto AND BRAT diet?
