I'm trying to get indoor trees for my 10 month old fox squirrel. Does anyone know which indoor tree is non-toxic to be located inside a covered porch (with AC and heat) in Texas?

Hi, Good question. I believe that there's actually quite a few depending on how good the lighting is on the porch. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I think that all of these on the list are safe crepe myrtle, Rose of Sharon, orange, kumquat, pecan I even had a couple of small live oaks in with my girl when she was younger.

The other day someone mentioned taking large limbs (crepe myrtle would a a good one to use) and sticking them in buckets of concrete. You can wrap twine around some areas and hang toys from others. A live tree is nice too!

Our girl loves Crepe Myrtle.
Also Bottle Brush which is more of a bush but if you get ones that are big enough they climb them. Home Depot will have 5 to 6 foot tall ones from time to time which is a good size for the squirrelies. They LOVE to snack on bottle brush sprouts.
Both the Crepe Myrtle and Bottle Brush you have to move in and out to keep them alive. We'll bring them in for a couple weeks and rotate them outside for a week to revitalize them.
We had a Pear tree once as well which is supposed to be safe but it didn't last long inside.
Having live trees is great for them.
Ultimately though the best trees are cat trees.
Man do they love cat trees!

I tried a pear tree but it didn't make it inside, even with a full spectrum light on it. I will be trying crepe myrtle next. The cat trees are definitely great.
