86g baby grey squirrel came in today sneezing a pink mixture of blood and fluids from nose. Apparent difficulty breathing, clicking through mouth breaths. Finder says that they found an orphan near a tree at their nursing home, I thought I was getting an orphan and not an injured squirrel since there was no mention of blood. I cleaned up the face and suckered out as much fluid from the nose as I could. When I touched the baby's face at first he screamed every time so I could not get a good suck. I have him a dose of oral metacam for pain relief and let him rest for a bit. Hours later I am still clearing pink from his nose and he can only take a tiny bit of Pedialyte at a time. So far only 2ccs. I can't tell if this baby is very sick or injured. Im worried about zoonotics and looking for advice. My mentor would typically advise me but she is unreachable for a few days. I can't tell if the eyes are swollen shut or still in the process of opening, there is only a tiny bit open in the center of both eyes. Bottom teeth are in, nothing on the top.

Awww poor baby...sounds like you are doing everything right :dono you are addressing his pain with the metacam and swelling...do you know how long the finder had him? I'm worried about the clicking....I wonder if you should start him on AB's....just incase this fluid got into his lungs. I'm praying for you both...this is going to be a long night :sadness

How is she today?

The blood may not have shown up right away . So the finder may not have known.
I had that happen last year. 3/6 survived a tree fall . The finder saw them fall. Called me right away.. They looked ok but a few hours later all hell broke loose. ( they all did fine)

Your doing everything I did.. Delicate balance of warmth with head trauma. Fluids. Metacam for pain. I have heard that is better than dexamethasone for head trauma but that's probably debatable.
