I'm looking for a lady named Kathy - she lives in WA State and helps with orphaned baby squirrels. I found one in my yard. I know her really well, but don't have her cell number only work number. I'm afraid that the baby might die. I don't know how long it was on the ground. My dog found it.
If anyone knows her please let me know.

Could you be reffering to Kathi - SQUIRRELSAREME in XXXXX?
Are you equipped to take care of baby until help is found?
Dark warm quiet and hydrate if able.
What's it look like fur no fur, eyes open or closed?
Any visable injury, how's it acting?
I'll pm my number call if need.

Maybe that's her. I went to Bartell's and got some Pedilyte - plain and a syringe. I gave it some and it drank it. It has fur, but the eyes are closed. I wrapped in a towel and have it in a little box.

I will. Kathy has told me some things and I have seen her in action. The little guy seems in good health.

That's great, will she be taking him?

I private messaged her and left a message at her salon. So hopefully she calls me soon. I know she will take the little guy. I don't have the knowledge to care for it. I checked on it this morning and still seems fine, but I'm sure it is hungry. I tried several times to give it some Pedialyte, but after the initial feeding it would not really take anymore. I made sure it wasn't cold only room temperature. Thanks again for the help last night.

HEAT THE PEDIALYTE! You want it quite warm to the touch - around 105-110 degrees. That is the temp of mamas milk and is the only temp they have any instinct to take.

It would help if you can put the baby in a plastic container instead of a box. The cardboard tends to dehydrate them. Also do you have a heating pad that doesn't shut off? Put it under half of the container and on low heat. If not a sock filled with rice and microwaved for a minute, squish it around so there are no hot spots and then wrap it in fleece or other material so the baby can't get burned. You'll have to reheat it but warmth is so essential for these babies.

Ok. I will heat the Pedialyte and change to plastic container. I do have a heating pad and will put it under the squirrel.

Yay! Just be sure to put it under half the container so it can move to a cooler area if needed. You can also add a small container, like a babyfood jar with a damp sponge in it to help keep up the humidity levels. Good luck with this little one!

I would like to let everyone know that she, yes it's a baby girl - flying squirrel, is in good hands! Kathi now has her and I'm sure is giving her what she needs. Thanks for all the tips on how to maintain until I got her some qualified help! I love animals and never want to see one die unnecessarily.

Since it's a flying squirrel and they are communal you apparently have a colony out there somewhere.
Keep an eye out on the areas your dog roams.
Thank you for rescuing this baby and getting her to the help she needs. You did good! :grouphug
