Hello all!

Over the weekend, I found a baby grey squirrel crying in our backyard. There are cats in the neighborhood (both our own, which we let out with supervision, and other outdoor cats that we see pass through), so I picked him up and brought him inside. I put him in a small open box, with a hand warmer covered by a kitchen towel, and secured the box in a tree. It's been more than 24 hours, and no sign of mom, so I think he's been abandoned.

I think he's around four weeks old; his eyes are closed, but he has fur. He has no obvious signs of injury, and he's been mostly sleeping. I've been giving him very small amounts of the squirrel rehydration solution I've seen online, which he seems eager to have.

He is absolutely adorable, but I have no desire to raise him (I know babies can be incredibly fragile!). I would love to put him in expert hands, but I also read that, where I live in Portland, Oregon, if I took him to a wildlife center they would be required by Oregon law to euthanize him. I do not want to take him someplace just to be killed. Are there any other options?

Thank you in advance for any advice!
Gretchen
