My neighbors who are hostile to squirrels have been telling their daughter that a fairy has been eating the candy that she leaves at the base of a tree. Thus, she keeps putting more and more candy and fruit at the bottom of this tree. Raspberries, and other sweets, ice cream sprinkles, etc. So far, nothing that I am aware of being super toxic. Do you think I should be concerned? What can be done?

I thought about just telling the daughter that it's not fairies, it's wildlife, and they can get sick. But if I do that she may not stop or believe me and the neighbors would be mad. It is against the law to feed wildlife, but how could that be enforced in this case, and also I would be concerned about that sort of complaint backfiring... I could tell them that I saw the raccoon out there since they don't like raccoons. Hum, what else?

Normally, they try to repel squirrels with Animal B Gon and other substances, so I think they are up to something. Lately, they've been complaining to me about someone they know who they say is using his kid to get sympathy and to do wrong. I strongly dislike that that idea is in their heads. Last week, I was smelling anti-rodent pesticides, probably coming from their apartment, so what is going on is odd. They know squirrels are eating the candy because I pointed it out yesterday, before the daughter put more out with their help.

For the most part, candy will not harm squirrels. But it will attract raccoons.

Thanks, I think I'm just going to ignore that then. I was worried about the seeds and skin in the raspberries, maybe there is no need? If they put out mint candy, I might collect it to be safe. Other than that, hopefully, they will lose interest soon. I might try to brainstorm other ideas to try to get them to lose interest in that in favor of something else. If this takes a turn for the worst, I will update.
