I found this information on Baytril.
Not sure if we'll find dosing for Cipro for animals since this
is a human antibiotic.

What is the proper Baytril for dogs dosage? As a pet owner you need to know this if your vet prescribes Baytril for your dog. The first consideration for dogs is the form of the medication, because this drug comes in tablets and ear drops for canines. The possible Baytril side effects will also depend on the form of the drug used. For the tablets the usual dose of Baytril for dogs is anywhere from 2.27 mg to 9.07 mg per pound of body weight given once a day, or half of this amount given two times per day at twelve hour intervals.

I stand corrected, I just found this for Ciprofloxacin

Ciprofloxacin dosage for dogs

You should follow the precise dosing instructions of your vet. Ciprofloxacin may be sold as either 250 or 500 mg tablets, and is most commonly given to dogs at dosages of 2.27 – 6.8 mg/lb body weight to be given twice a day (12 hour intervals).

Yes, it is different!
You can't really do an equivalent dosing with Ciprofloxacin vs Baytril when dosing a dog. The GI tract of dogs absorb Baytril MUCH better than Ciprofloxacin. I have no idea why. :dono Because Baytril is expensive and Cipro is cheap (even free some places) vets will sometimes prescribe the Ciprofloxacin instead of the Baytril when dosing a large dog. They dose a lot higher with the Cipro because of the absorption problem.

I don't know but I would think this would need to be dosed as tablets and NOT a liquid. Do you know how BAD Ciprofloxacin tastes? It is horrible!!!! I doubt you would ever get 15ml of that nasty mess down a dogs throat. I wouldn't even try. :tilt

Thank you both so much! We've been so busy today that I haven't been able to do research. She'll probably go to the vet this week - just in case it isn't what we think it is. Thank you both so much!! Learned a lot from all this!!! :hug
