Hi there!
I have, with the help of TSB, identified my baby as a squirrel and not a rat.
He's approximately 2-3 days old and seems very healthy-- took some rehydration fluid and peed/ pooped like a champ!
I would love to keep him, but the every2 hour feedings would be rough on by immune-compromised body. I tend to need A LOT of sleep and this sweet little guy deserves someone who won't sleep through her alarm!!
Please, JLMK. Somewhere he could have siblings would be great.

Hello,
I would take him if I could, I just lost both of my sweet babies... Daisy was almost 9 yrs old, and Chewy was 5 yrs old in March. It's hard to lose one... let alone two just three days apart. :boohoo But I know one of these guys here on TSB will find a rehabber in your area soon - just take good care of him while you wait to hear from them. People are just you getting home from work... Sending prayers your way. :hug

Music01, we need to consider all offers as Chris definitely can NOT keep this little one. How far are you from Brandon? Due to health issues she can't take care of one this small. I can't take it because I work.

Chris, you should be contacted either tonight or in the morning by a rehabber that will take the baby.
She has a 16g baby to put with this little one. :dance

Oh, I'm so sorry! That is sad-- but it sounds like they lived long, happy lives.
We lost two of our dogs, a lab and a golden retriever, within two months of each other so I understand how you feel. They were my babies and I still miss them all the time.
I hope a new little squirrel comes into your life soon. You never know where one will turn up, today's baby was in a gutter. I'm so glad my daughter brought her home or she would have drowned or been washed down the sewer tonight, we've had a lot of rain this evening.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone for pulling together and helping me rehome this baby. Who is a she, not a he (hey, I was busy taking care of her, not checking her genitalia.)
I really don't even have a guess as to how this baby ended up in a gutter. She was just a tiny bit dehydrated, even though it was wicked hot here today. I gave her two rehydration feedings and then added a little Esbilac, about 1:5 ratio.
She only weighs 11 grams. She totally looks like she's not done cooking yet! The very first squirrel I raised was a pinky, but I don't think he was this small. She's a wiggly, obviously healthy little thing. I can't feed her with the regular miracle nipple (it's as big as her head!) and I can't find my mini- nipples. So, I'm just feeding her very carefully from a 1/2 cc syringe, and she's eating great.
Again, thanks everyone, especially music 01 and H4S. I would LOVE to keep this baby, but I know I can't. Plus I think Patti might come over and kill me. :grin3

:thankyou
Oh, I almost forgot (it's 4 AM and I've slept for about an hour)-- In a couple hours I'm taking my mom in for or a minor surgery. I'm hoping it won't take too long but in case it does, any ideas for taking care of the baby? It's too hot to leave her in the car, and I don't think the hospital would approve of me bringing my squirrel in. How do you guys, who have day jobs or are students, take care of small babies? I don't have anyone I trust to care for her, especially my kids, because of aspiration. They'd be devastated if they accidentally hurt her. Any and all suggestions appreciated!!

Bra. :grin3
Little thermos of formula in purse, kept cold. Go to ladies room, fill cup with warm water, load syringe and stick it in the warm water for a few minutes to heat. Sit in one of the stalls and feed and potty baby and back in bra.
If you have a little pouch she could go into and a means of keeping her warm (a hot hands pack wrapped well in a sock is good) you can just carry a big purse or case and keep her and her stuff in there out of sight. If not, I would use your own body heat.

Hahahaha :rotfl
Thank you!!
You know, I've done that before. I didn't even think of it. My sleepless brain needed some help! I remember my first pinky, Chewy, went with me everywhere in my bra-- the grocery, Target, you name it, I did it. But I'd go back to the car to feed him.
The most interesting feedings I've ever had were at a swim meet. I took a baby flyer in the pocket of my warm fleece and kept my hand over the pocket. They were making hot dogs to sell, and had a warm water 'bath' underneath to keep the hotdogs warm. I used it to heat my water. See, I can be inventive when awake!!

By the way, it worked out this AM because my mom didn't want me to stay. So I dropped Mom at the hospital at 6 AM, dropped my daughter off at swimming at 6:15 AM, and was only 15-20 minutes late for this baby's feeding.
She has just a little diarrhea, I'm guessing from the abrupt change in diet from mama's milk to rehydration fluid. Is that a good theory?
