Just the question in the title line. Ignore the word "pecan" in title. I suspect it's a pecan, but am unsure.

(I picked up some of it, smelled it. Nutty smell. Normal texture. Color has me concerned.)

I put out a cement bird bath for the squirrels and other wildlife to drink from. Today, I noticed that it was packed with what looked like centimeter long tiny worms swimming beneath the surface of the water with jerk-like motions. I immediately dumped the water, rinsed with the hose, and added new water. I didn't use soap.

Has anyone else experienced this? Do you suggest I take additional steps to ensure the water is safe?

Without seeing it myself, I can't know for sure, but I'm guessing that what you saw was mosquito larvae. If so, its good you dumped it or you would have had a mosquito hatchery soon! :-0 Simply changing the water frequently will keep out the mosquito larvae from advancing as they did into almost adults.

Ditto. Water change every 24 hours.. Some birds eat em but.. Kill the skeeters..

Since I'm moving soon, I was trying to set up my fluffy-tailed friends with plenty of food. So I tried giving them lots of hard shell pecans and other nuts, but darn it, instead of scatter hoarding, they seem to be eating it all!!! Boxes and boxes of nuts, getting fatter and fatter. Any idea how I can encourage them to store and hide their food?

Rocky1,
I have the opposite issue, mine won't eat it, they just want to hide, hoard it all, bury it. I'm sure they would reach a point where they can't eat it all, and will start burying it, but sounds like you've spent a lot on nuts and they haven't reached that limit yet. Well, fat squirrels is one way to leave food for them, fat stores on their bodies.

Have you considered burying the nuts yourself for them? I can pretty much assure you that if you don't bury it deep, or stash them in locations just under leaf debris etc, they will find it. Their noses lead them. I watch squirrels dig up each others shallow buried nuts all the time.

That's my thoughts anyway.
