It's been a while since I last posted about squirrel feeding and nutrition. I still have the 40 lb bags
of whole corn inside the house in the cool that I planned to feed them in the winter of 2015!
Well, no corn (even with supplementation) and no peanuts (too bad: Georgia is the peanut state; can get
them at the farmer's market at good prices in bulk) and can't afford nice nuts. I understand that rodent
blocks are on for a treat but not all squirrels like them.
For the past several weeks, I've been filling ground feeders with black oil sunflower seed which they
really see them and the squirrels. I'd like to put out some apples and fruit but in this hot Georgia summer, it's not feasible. I have some packages of sunflower seeds out of the shells. Do they like those?
So, I am still in a quandary. Last year I bought a very nice large glass jar squirrel feeder to mount on
a tree and a wooden one with a window for them to lift for the food. But since it's no peanuts or corn,
they're still sitting on the table.
I love the squirrels and am almost desperate to be able to feed them. I'm hoping for a miracle
solultion! ellenc

You can feed both corn and peanuts in moderation to wild squirrels. Our recommendations are for squirrels who are in rehab or for some other reason indoors in our care. I wouldn't feed the old corn, but it's okay to feed it when it is fresher.

Pumpkin seeds are good, too: healthier than sunflower seeds and peanuts.
