Just as you think you're about as sad as you can get from losing one of the great loves in your life... The veterinarians office notified me that in spite of the BIG BOLD words "Body will be picked-up" written on the box containing Chewy's body when it was delivered to the lab for the necropsy... his body was sent to the veterinarians office instead. OK but wait.... it was then sent for CREMATION! The office said "there was a mix up" but I signed nothing giving permission to cremate Chewy! Chewy had never been to their office, they only authorized the necropsy. But "you won't be charged for it..." "Just bring Daisy and we will only charge for one." Of course, I received this information in a voicemail just minutes before they closed for lunch for one hour. To make bad matters worse, I'm betting they did a communal cremation and his ashes was dumped out in the middle of nowhere!!!:tap:tap:tap:tap:tap:tap

Oh Pam, I am so sorry that your final wishes for Chewy were not carried out. That is just inexcusable. :shakehead :grouphug

I know this is hard, that kind of screw up is infuriating! :(

Just know that somewhere, Chewy is whole and healthy, bright eyed and eager as he travels on to his next life. :grouphug

Yes, it was probably a mass cremation.

I always keep an eye on the vet. I brought a rat in for euthanasia and the vet said, yeah, just give him to me and I'll do it "in the back". Nope! I told him I'm coming with him "in the back". He was just going to give an intracardial -- I told him I wanted the rat to have an anesthetic first and that I was going to hold the rat while he administered.

You can't assume anything. Even compassion.

Yes, Chewy is in a new body, whole and happy, so thankfully the screw up does not affect him. But oh dear, this totally does affect you whose wishes were not carried out. I feel for you having to go through this...

Please tell me they did the necropsy. They did that right? Are you awaiting results? Don't tell me they cremated him without a report....

Hugs as you walk through this....:hug

WHEW! :klunk

It's OK.... Chewy got a private cremation, and the senior veterinarian went to pick up his ashes this afternoon.

I suppose I will take Daisy tomorrow for cremation since Chewy was cremated. Don't panic, I've had Daisy in deep freeze since last week waiting for Chewy. I've had a difficult time trying to make a decision on cremation vs a regular burial. I was actually leaning towards a regular burial so that their bodies would go back to the earth they loved so much... but with cremation I can keep them with me always.

Thank you for all the great support... I KNOW you all know just how painful the loss of one of these babies can be (let alone two), and how important it is that their remains be managed with the upmost love and respect.

I am very sorry you had to go through that ordeal with the vet. Maybe if you are going to have Daisey cremated too, you might consider co-mingling their ashes and placing the ashes in a hole you dig to plant a tree in their memory. Maybe an oak tree.....a tree that they will be able to "play" in forever. Just a thought. :grouphug

I was wondering as mentioned above, did they honor request for necropsy? Will you be posting results here or a different thread? So sorry for your losses and the additional grief of how your last wishes were disregarded. Just hopeful you will get answers; I may be looking in wrong thread, my apologies if I'm in wrong place .
