I've read the recent posts about teeth trimming but I must still be doing something wrong??! I'm afraid I'm going to cause worse problems; any suggestions appreciated, please! Doodles teeth literally overgrow about every 10-24 days, due to her malocclusions. So today I bought some new nippers ( cuticle? Looked very sharp and tiny). I noted the comment about only trimming small amount at time, and one tooth at a time . One problem was I couldn't seem to place the nippers in between the teeth? I figured would be less likely to split if cut was side-side , the "flat" part. But couldn't get blade between, so had to go perpendicular ( or cut across front to back- the wider way) and an oblique split resulted don to base of tooth, causing tiny bleed. Once the first tip was out of way, I cut across the flat portion of second tooth- same result; oblique split . This happened with all 4 teeth?!! What am I doing wrong?? If we see blood, does this cause pain??

Okay, you can't get between the teeth to trim them. What I usually do is, I put the trimmers on the tooth from the outside. The handles of the trimmers will be to the side of the teeth not in front of them. Does that make sense? I also learned once you have the trimmers lined up on the tooth and make sure the end of it isn't touching the other tooth. Get a good grip and squeeze fast and hard. If you hesitate that can also cause the tooth to split.

These are what I use. I trim multiple squirrels with no
splintering.

NO NO nipping at the teeth.....one cut per tooth
nipping at them repeatedly causes splintering. When the
tooth splinters badly it needs to be pulled. Was at the
vet when a tooth splintered and half the tooth had to be
pulled. A nasty mess
Is the blood from the tooth? Or is it the tongue, lips
or gums???

Oh gosh; I hope hers will grow back ok ?! The blood was from the base of tooth where split (s) ended. Her tongue and lips etc were held back with tiny syringe. It sounds like I had them positioned properly ( once I could tell there was no going between the teeth) I think my cutters were not sharp enough, because I did have to nip couple times to get through . If I saw a little blood does this mean she's in pain? She eagerly ate a pecan after- but will she be aching ? One person said there are no nerves? But what if see blood?

I agree that it sounds like you need a different pair of cutters. Seems yours are too small to do the job if you are not cutting through cleaning in one attempt.
