Hi All,
Last week we got an adult female Southern Flying Squirrel with injurues. Xrays show that her right bottom floater rib is broken. Vets instructions: no gliding for at least 2 to 3 weeks. She is pretty wobbly when she walks too. Not very active due to her injury.
We names her Bella & Girlfriend is a PICKY eater! We have tried everything we can think of and she wants no parts. She does take 5-7% formula 2 to 3 times a day. I have been making boo blocks with chopped pecans and she barely eats the block & picks the pecans out. So, I started crushing the pecans and mixing into boo block (no chunks) and she won't even touch it. We have tried all kinda of fruits and veggies, worms, grasshoppers, yogurt..............We also give her metacam for pain once a night.
Any suggestions on getting this little girl to eat?

Aww she is a cute one.
Just keep trying everything you can think of. My guys seem to like sweet potatoes watermelon and dandelion greens. Mine love mealworms and cooked chicken..
Is she losing weight? Once Bella heals from her broken rib she can join the two I have. Maybe she is a bit lonely.

:wave123 Been wondering how you were doing with the girl.....
Since this is a (wild) adult I would try to think of what it may have been eating in the wild
like mushrooms, crickets, moths, insects, etc. I think a pet store with reptiles would carry
a variety of insects you could try. Have you tried boiled egg or chicken yet?

Hey guys, thanks for asking about Bella. Her eating habits are still the same but I'm not concerned because she is taking formula and eating high protein blocks from Henrys.
However,
2 mornings ago, after feeding her formula she had a seizure. Lasted for about 15-20 seconds. I'm not sure how long Bella was laying on the ground before she was found. I forgot to mention that she was covered in deer ticks. Atleast 10 of them that we had to remove. She was also infested with fleas and mites.
We are taking her to Dr's tomorrow and would like to discuss lyme disease. The reason for this is #1 the seizure, low activity, sleeps all day and all night. She only walks when she walks towards me or away from me. Other than that, she stays in the same spot. She should be a lot more active. I can look at her and tell something is wrong with her other than the broken rib. Something is not right.
I'm curious if anyone has had a flyer with lyme disease? If so, was doxycycline used for treatment? Was it effective?
Redwolf, I lost your number...if you get a free moment, could you pm me with it?
Thanks again!
P.S. Bella is still as sweet as ever. I spend most night holding her on my chest. She loves loves love's to be rubbed on the side of her face and ears. I would love to be able to release her with the Two flyers Trysh has, but we need to get her straightened out 1st.

Forgot to mention too...
When she walks, she wobbles. Like she is off balance. She is not quick by any means. She's actually rather slow. I thought she wobbled due to her broken rib but after seeing the seizure and than the ticks....it has me worrying.

Oh yea, she is not right. At 70 plus grams she should be faster than the speed of light, guicker than a speeding bullet, and able to stop a locomotive in its tracks.
Thanks for taking such good care of her, as you do with your whole gang:grouphug
I won't release before August, or if it looks like she needs more time we'll wait for Bella
Bella, where are you
