View Full Version : Something wrong with my Rascal's testicles

I was playing with my Eastern Grey squirrel today. I had him on his back, rubbing his belly when I noticed that his testicles looked not normal. I'm not even sure how to describe it. I have a few photos but I'm having the hardest time posting them here. Any advice on the easiest way to post photos so I can get some feedback on my little love? Thank you! 😊

Did you try clicking the "add attachments" button after you wrote your comment? Some who are tech savvy on this board offer to post pics. Unfortunately, I'm not that tech savvy. Sorry. Someone should be along before long.

One way is to upload your photos to a photo hosting website like Photobucket. They you can copy the photo link in Photobucket in a post here on the TSB and the photo will appear.

Are his testicles large (match the size and appearance of in-shell Brazil nut)? If so, that is normal during mating season.

I think I may have figured it out. Hopefully the picture is actually attached!

This is what his testicles normally look like.

they look normal to me for an older juvenile/young adult size - I've actually seen MUCH bigger than that! How old is Rascal? This IS the beginning of the 2nd mating season - so that just might explain it.

Oh, he's fine. The testicles on mature male squirrels are in a constant state of change - from cute little small furries to what I call "giant porn balls" :grin3 Rascal is entering GPB territory!

Rascal is a 1 year old NR. I'm definitely aware of how the testicles enlarge during mating season :grin2 However, they have always looked like they do in the last picture posted which is the "before" picture. The picture from today, the testicles are pink instead of dark with some dark splotches on them. Is this normal for mating season? The testicles didn't appear that way the last time so I was wondering if he had some sort of skin issue going on down there.

:rotfl giant porn balls sounds about right :rotfl

That's how they were last time but never pink with the dark splotches. They were just huuuge and all dark.

My flyer's GPBs get so big he drags the fur off of them. :eek :rotfl

My sweet paralyzed boy Scooter gets drag sores. Earlier in the spring his man parts took an awful beating. GPB is a perfect description of them. Girls get pregnant and raise babies. Boys drag boulders around after them.

I think she's concerned with the change in color. Were they normally pink or normally black? Ladies, is there any significance to the change in color. Pink does seem unusual to me.

Yes exactly. His testicles are normally dark. I've not seen this color before. The last mating season they were of course enlarged but not this pink color. I have not seen him excessively groom them so I don't think it's from that. Thanks for any and all feedback :grin2

Could they be irritated from being dragged around a bit?

Perhaps... I have not really seen him doing the dragging thing with his testicles but it's a possibility. Should I put any creams or ointments on them or just leave them be?

I noticed the fur is very thin on them as well. I would watch for over grooming or him itching them. They do look odd to me being pink. I am not a expert though. Hope you find out something.

Maybe put down some extra fleece so he does not drag them on the cage floor? I would watch them carefully but not sure I woukd doanything at this point. Do they seem to bother him?

The dragging thing is usually scent marking, but make sure he isn't having poop issues - if they get soft stools they will butt drag to clean themselves.

I am sure that P would be very happy to have me discuss his GPBs online because he is so freaking proud of them. As I said, in the late summer they usually contract a LOT - like they are maybe a quarter their normal size and you can actually see and feel them in his lower abdomen. Then in early winter they start to grow - first fuzzy, then suddenly they become naked and alarmingly, um, human looking - pinkish - and then from there they get larger and darken until they are dark purplish black where they stay until they disappear again. The degree that they change is amazing, really.

This is interesting - as much as Ambrose likes to put his er..nuts :gigg in my hand (seriously, wtf is that all about?), I've never seen them pink. His have always been like the picture R-I-T posted. I would have been panicking more than R-I-T if Ambrose's looked like Rascal's pink ones! Looks like someone peeled the skin off! :eek Sometimes Ambrose will have two extras at the very tip that last for a few weeks then disappear, but never pink - is a lack of pink abnormal? :dono

There are a ton of jokes that my caffeine-starved mind wants to post, but I don't think either Ambrose or Mr. DL would appreciate either of them :grin3

They don't seem to bother him right now. I will put extra fleece in the bottom to avoid any further irritation to his poor squirrel balls. They don't look any worse today so that's a plus! So just to clarify, could this be a normal phase that testicles go through when they are changing or is the majority consensus that this is abnormal? I just want to make sure that it's not something more, like some sort of skin issue that would need treatment. Either way, he seems perfectly content and not bothered by them so I'll just keep a eye on his squirrel bits :grin2

I think ole Rascal's squirrel balls are fine :grin2

They are obviously more enlarged today and they look very normal other than the pigment changes. I think the dark disappears and his just turn more pinkish :dono
