I have a 10 year old English bulldog, obviously she's getting pretty old and when she woke up today I could tell she's in some pain, in her hips. Id like to giver her something to help her. I have infant inbuprofen, tramadol, and aspirin. She weighs about 60 lbs.

Thank you

According to Web MD, both meloxicam and tramadol can be given to dogs but it didn't say how much of either. Also, aspirin is ok but only short term. It also didn't say how much to give. I would be hesitant to give anything outside a baby aspirin until I talked to my veterinarian.

When my 45 lbs border collie was suffering from Acute leukemia , she was given tramadol. The dosing was 1/2 to 1 tablet every 12 to 24 hrs. 50 mg tablets.
Hope pup feels better.

The tramadol did make her sleepy and a little loopy.

Out of those things tramadol is the best. 50 mg would be OK for a 60 lb dog. you should really see your vet for antiinflammatories though. Human meds are generally not a good idea for your pet. You should talk to your vet.

Yes, A trip to vet would be best. There are drugs like Rimidyl, and others , used to treat arthritis that would be better.... And they don't have a sedative effect. Also, I use nutritional support, Cosequin, and Ultimate HA by Purity Products.

Please read about Rimidyl very carefully and watch your puppy closely while on it. My blonde lab had bleeding while on it and had to use Tramadol. Luckily I caught the reaction quickly and immediately took her to the emergency vet.
I to offered extra support through nutrition and supplements. We also found acupuncture and massage helped quite a bit, especially her last year with us.

I would make sure her diet is tight (grain free) and well supplemented. Fish oil (2 a day) MSM/glucosamine chondriotin (Cosequin is the veterinary brand) and Turmeric. I also add coconut oil as a healthy fat. My Dane has been off meds for a year and a half with just supplements. And I agree with the others who suggested caution with Rimadyl. I would use Tramadol or Meloxicam (Metacam) if needed.

I gave her half a 50mg tramadol sunday and it seemed to really help her, sometimes her hips just bother her, part of being a bulldog. She is on grain free food because of allergies. I have coconut oil, how much should I give a dog her size? Ill also look into a glucosamine supplement.

I will be making an appointment to go to the vet. She has been on Rimadyl in the past for an injury, but its been a while, Its always been the medicine my vet has prescribed all our dogs for pain, so Ill question this when Im there vs tramadol or metacam.
