Doodles, my special needs baby with neuro and malocclusion , has overgrown teeth literally within about ten days of a trim. I've read posts that suggest everything from dremmels to specialized instruments. The thought of the dremmel makes me a little nervous; her teeth have laxity (?) They move as though the symphysis, or midline of her lower jaw may have been split, and never healed well. And to make things more complicated they have malocclusion - the lower literally drill a hole into the roof of her mouth, the upper will irritate her lower gumline if wait too long. I tried a pair of small bone cutters ( vet instrument) but they seem to crush or cause the teeth to split? Also have tried just a small pair of clean wire nippers- seem to work the best, but still sometimes cause small irregular edges,,or partial oblique split ( one time a little blood noted- even though cut above the pulp line) . Do they have feeling in their teeth when this happens, or run risk of infection?? As mentioned no veterinary squirrel helpers around here :( ; just trying to do best I can. I do know, that after trimming ( even if splits a little into blood line) she immediately starts eating as though very relieved- but is this painful? What works better in your opinions?
