I released Little Girl two weeks ago, and she has been living mostly on our porch, sleeping in her hut under our porch eves. Still totally tame, needing lots of cuddles and sometimes trying to get back into the house, though I take her back out as soon as she sneaks in. We have seen her getting along with other squirrels. Today she started making a leaf nest in our maple. Is she pregnant?????? She’s 21 weeks old.

I'm not sure at what age they can get pregnant. Maybe someone else will chime in on that.

I've got a group of four orphaned wilds (3 girls and 1 boy) that are about that age and I have seen them practicing their nest building. They are chewing off small sections of oak tree growth and stacking them, although they seem to drop a whole bunch before they can get them where they want them.

Love the splat pic on the patio chair!

I would say that it is very unlikely that she is [regnant that young. Nest building is a skill that they all learn and now when it is getting hotter, I think the leaf nests are more comfortable. My sweet porch-dweller has moved out of her box and into the trees also. Bottom line is that she is just being a squirrel.

I agree on the nest building, hopefully that's what it is... for now. :grin2
Pregnancy probably is unlikely, not impossible.

Pregnancy lasts 44-45 days. Most females begin their reproductive life at 15 months (60weeks) but
reputedly can bear young as early as 5.5 months (22weeks). http://www.sherv.net/cm/emoticons/shocked/jaw-drop-smiley-emoticon.gif
...Not sure what to believe on that one, hasn't happened with mine. http://www.sherv.net/cm/emoticons/yellow-hd/embarrassed-smile-smiley-emoticon.gif

Males usually are sexually mature by 11 months but that testosterone
sure can kick in sooner then that! :hurt
