Hello TSB Fam,
I hope you all are doing well, and the weather isnt kickin you'r Bu#$ like it is mine:grin2
I was driving home today, and found a Turtle in the Middle of the Road, I parked aside and took him of the road, checked him out and he seemed to have a cracked shell up front, it dosent like bad, there was some blood stuck on his shell, I cleaned it out.
I put him in my dog's crate and covered him, but his some water and lettuce, he ate some, I took him away from AC and kept him in a dark room.
I patched his shell with some tape. What should I do next? my family is moving into a house in a couple of months, could they keep him until then, after that they can put him out in the yard>?
I know this is not a TURTLE page, but I am hoping for some expert advice.
:serene:serene:serene:serene
Thank you guys...

What type turtle are you speaking of?
Personally I'd seek out a rehabber that does turtles so they can treat
and properly repair the shell. An open crack in their shell leaves them
subject to a bacteria that becomes life threatening.

I attached an image of him, and its sad but Rehabs here in this state are terrible, they dont answer or care for some reason. and there is no one that is an expert of turtles either here!!! so I am on my own.

romeo, this is Patricia Johnson's web page:
https://turtleadvocate.wordpress.com/about/
She is an absolutely fantastic turtle expert. I have been to her seminars and learned SO much. I am sure if you contact her and send her pix of the turtle she can help you do what needs to be done to save him.

I don't know much about turtles but isn't that a gopher turtle. If it is, be REAL careful with that because they are protected to a level equal with the president.
It's totally ridiculous but they would put you in jail for the rest of your life if you even touch one. Maybe that's a slight exaggeration. :tilt
It's just part of the ever increasing insanity in this country. :shakehead
Hopefully the turtle lady can identify and tell you what to do. Thanks for helping and caring. :hug

Good for you for rescuing the turtle. They are truly wonderful creatures. I am a retired rehabilitator that partnered with a veterinarian and worked fro years in turtle rehabilitation.
First, remove the tape. The wound needs to be able to heal, i use saline to clean the wound, but if you have not worked wiht turtles do not take this on. Sterile saline to flush the wound, really needs to be clean, then apply betadine. If you have solvadeen, that is a wonderful antibacterial and anti fungal cream.
Second, it would be good if a veterinarian would take a look at it for you.
Third, when a turtle heals, it needs lots of protein. They will devour live earthworms, mealworms, waxworms, etc. They need a shallow bowl of water so they can get in, sprawl, poo, and drink. Lettuce just won't help them.
Can you get a veterinarian? Is there a wildlife rehabber that would help you?

Is that a tortoise? Looks a lot like the one I had as a kid.

Yep, it's definitely a tortoise (land dweller). There is a forum for tortoises if you are interested tortoiseforum.org
Mine looked a little different, his shell was smoother. He was a fun pet. Loved feeding him. Definitely low maintenance.

Yes, I am wondering what happened with the tortoise, too. It did look like a gopher tortoise, which as Hrt4sqrls stated are protected. Hope the tortoise got the help it needed. :grin2
