Any recommendations for the best diet for a captive red squirrel?

I cannot find much information on captive pine squirrel diet. I plan to release him in my yard where there are no squirrels currently and feed him daily.

I've read thier diet is primarily pine nuts/cones. I plan do allway have pine cones, rat block, and monkey biscuits available plus other squirrel friendly things.

I did have a breeding female pine squirrel in a walnut tree for a couple years, but I haven't seen her for many months now.

Yes, you are correct..... the red squirrel eats mostly pine seeds, but they also consume: acorns, berries, mushrooms (fungi), the bark and sap from a tree, not to mention insects at times.
