Hey guys :) some of you may remember my story with my little rescued pinky. She burned her head and is now missing an ear and is almost blind on one eye, but is nonetheless a happy little squirrel, who is now 1 year old. She is obviously not releasable, so she became a lovable member of our family. I keep her free during the day, when everybody's at work an put her to sleep in her cage at night.
For those who don't know Bless, this is she. 274084274085
so a few days ago I noticed I can see her genitalia better. She doesn't seem different behavior wise, nor did I notice anything different regarding her appetite. I took a photo of her and her teeth, because I can't help but wander what's with this. I was hoping you might help me understand this, since there's not much known about squirrels here in Slovenia. She eats shelled nuts that she opens herself and she has a vitamin stone to gnaw on.
Here are the photos. 274086274087

I'm so happy to see an update with Bless!! She's SO gorgeous!!
Thinking to my female, her genitalia look normal to me :dono But her teeth do look a bit long. If necessary, could you trim them yourself?

I remember her story and WOW she's all grown up and BEAUTIFUL!!!
I don't know what we are supposed to be seeing in the pics but she looks normal... her bottom teeth do look a bit long.
Please share more pics of this little girl, I can't get enough!

The bottom teeth are too long and definitely need to be trimmed before they start
cutting or puncturing the roof of her mouth. There are a lot of complications that
can surface from overgrown teeth. Best to address it now.

Oh my god, thank god I got back on the forum in time.
What do I do?? I have literally NO IDEA how to trim teeth, I don't want to hurt her or injure her. Should I take her to a vet? Do you think they'd know what to do?
I am also leaving tomorrow and I'll be gone for a week, can I do that when I come back? Will it help if I give her more shelled nuts that she has to open herself, will that help atleast a little?
God I'm soooo worried :(

A veterinarian should certainly know how to trim teeth.
Do you have a safe vet that would see her?

Well I think so, but it's a problem taking her before I leave.. Do you think she will be ok for 1 week and I take her as soon as I return?

That's hard to judge, from what that one picture shows it looks like
the bottom incisors are going behind the top and that's not good.
Can you take another picture showing her teeth in a more "relaxed" position
without pulling her bottom mouth/lips down. That may give a better assessment.

Ok, I will try that, but if I dont open her lower lip nothing looks wrong really. I will post it in a bit.

What do you mean her legs looked like that?
Bless is also a different type of squirrel than we see here in the US, which may cause her body to look a bit differently than we're used to.

No no, her legs are fine, they are quite muscular and she doesnt walk funny or anything. She gets lots of veggies and fruit and has a block of calcium and magnesium I think to gnaw on. Squirrels here live mainly on nuts and seeds, so she gets lots of that as well.

Look on youtube, there are videos on how to trim squirrels teeth, to give you an idea. You need special clippers to do it, but it isn't too hard. She is a cutie!

I really don't think one week will make that much difference, but would do something as soon as you get back in. Just only my opinion and I am no registered rehabber, just someone with a little knowledge from observation and reading. When you get her fixed I think it would be best to give her unshelled nuts so she can help wear her teeth naturally. If their teeth lined up properly they keep them the right length by grinding them together. When they don't line up they cant properly grind them and they get all out of whack and that is where we come in. She is a beautiful little girl!

Oh, also one thing I should mention. If you open the mouth, you can actually see another set of teeth behind her upper front set. I cant take a photo to show, since missis is hyper at the moment. Shes had that from the start. They are a little smaller than the first upper pair and not as yellow. Maybe reds have different teeth, is that possible?

I think what you are likely seeing is where her bottom teeth are going behind her top teeth
and grooved them out to where it may look like a "second" set behind. A Reds incisors are not
different from other squirrels. Those bottoms need to be trimmed IMO.

Just a word of caution.
It's extremely dangerous to take a NR squirrel outside with NO cage around her.
Even if you get a small travel cage, that's better than nothing.
If she gets spooked and takes off, that may be the last time you see her.
We have seen that WAY too often on this board. :(
She's too precious to have anything happen to her. :Love_Icon

:yeahthat Here is my girl. Is this what you are seeing?
Both of hers was like that. I had the vet do hers.
Your little one is adorable:klunk.
Do you have a SAFE vet that would see her?
You do not want them to take her.
