hello! coming home from a 4 day trip out of town, i find my archie has been injured- he's the over-wintered baby released in april. his back right leg or foot is injured, he isn't using it at all, but he's being quite resistant to coming close to me, so i do not know what has happened. should i trap him and bring him in? its slowing down his climbing, for sure. i see a couple of disturbances in his fur. sorry for the terrible grammar/post, i'm keeping an eye out from inside! he was fine right before we left, last wednesday. my poor sweet boy!:Squirrel

Oh No, that's terrible!!! Do you think you can try to get some pics of his leg? Do you see any puncture wounds or anything like that?
I'm sure someone with more knowledge will be here soon to help you out. Trapping him and assessing his injuries doesn't sound like a bad idea. You can never be too careful when it comes to these little guys.

i will try- he's hunkering down in his house, but i lured him out with a peanut earlier, then i ran in here! there were also two other squirrels harassing him, around his house.. charging up my phone now. i'll get the smaller cage ready, the girls are getting ready to go out but they still have the big cage.

They usually shake stuff like that off pretty quickly. Try to stuff his little face when he comes for food - he is more likely to go home to his nest and sleep the time away instead of being out and about foraging, which is just what he needs to do. Keep an eye on the swelling - if it doesn't go down or gets worse, then antibiotics will be needed and you may have to catch him.

Poor little guy, I hate that he got injured.:( I agree with CritterMom though - give him plenty to eat and fresh water to drink - if he's anything like my release Lenny when he gets injuries like that, he will lay low and rest for a few days until he is feeling better. Hope little Archie feels better soon.:grouphug

Hopefully Archie will feel better soon :grouphug
Unfortunately the newbies have to make a name for themselves in the yard and get chased around by the current residents for a while. My girl Risu that was released last year still gets bullied some, but she is handling things better every day (including my new release who thinks she owns me and the yard).

thank you- tonight won't be easy. I spent some extra time with daisy, the current little houseguest. she let me rub her sweet belly.
