Hi,

I just started taking and interest in Squirrels after realizing that Hamsters are cute but they need absolute quiet which is not possible since I have children. My Rainbow passed away at 5 months after three weeks of fighting wet tail. The Vet I called for advice didn't help much.

Now I moved on to keeping Snails and Pillbugs, and Squirrels. Last week we had and incident where a squirrel was being noisy in the attic and my father wanted to close it, I was quick to tell him they might have baby squirrel and it might be best for them to come out. Later on, my dad told me to take a look there is a baby squirrel outside in the back yard and the mother is supervising it. It look quite big, but the mother was slightly bigger and she was black. After my dad closed the hole the squirrels moved on and I had an idea. I collected the pine cones and spread peanut butter on them and hid them in various tree locations in my nieghbour hood block. I started taking pictures and checking back. Lately I went to the way wild bird specialist store to buy no-shell bird seed and a wooden wired feed tray. I also have leftover hamster food and I mixed it together. I left it under some shrubs and luckily they lived it!

Now in Canada the weather is warming up, should I leave water out for them I live in a city and there is hardly nothing in my neighbourhood where they get water? Unless it's the unclean kind. The eastern grays, brown and black coloured squirrels are common. I pick dry bird seed and Hamster food because it won't spoiled as quick as veggies and Sometimes I collect pine cones and acorns, but that is all they seem to eat which is why they raid bird feeders for something different. Looking forward to reading new things on here since I'm still learning.

Thanks, for the welcome! They are difficult to get close to, but I still keep trying to get closer.

:Welcome to TheSquirrelBoard

You've found the right place to learn about squirrels and people that love talking about them. :grin2 I enjoy hearing about your squirrels also. Where I live we don't have those black or brown (morphs) squirrels. It's on my 'wish list'. Welcome!
