Hi-
I haven't been on in a while- I've raised quite a few babies, but mostly greys (I have a blind grey that I've had for 4 years who I raised from not much bigger than a pinky- she owns my dining room, lol) It's been that long since I had a baby (with a tail) in the house.. but I still have all my goodies like syringes, cages, etc. So-My hubby happened to hear something scritching in the pipe above the woodstove in the garage last night and when he pulled it open, a baby red took off like a shot. We couldn't find it then as it was about half dark out and it went into the woodpile. This morning, we saw TWO littles sitting there on the wood.. one bigger than the other. I went out and clucked mama-talk at them and one let me pick him right up. He was cool and dehydrated. The other one took off. I brought Mister Chill into the house and put him in my old infant rubbermaid tote with a brand-new blanky to snuggle. I've been rehydrating him slowly with some diluted gatorade and just about to mix up some Esbilac- when I see the brother out by the woodpile. I went out, and there were actually THREE others..only they are bigger and stronger than this little dude.. he holds his tail back and down flat, and they are all "tail up and kick your butt" like only a red can do.. Not only that, but who should come scolding me across the woodpile but Mama Red!! I backed off and she went down by them, but then went back in the tree.. One of the babies looks just a tiny bit bigger than the one I have inside, but they all look stronger and sassier. This little dude just wants to be held and purrrrr and drink gatorade. So, my question is, will mama coax them back into a nest somewhere? She is VERY aware of where they are and was quite cheeky with me when I went near them.. And what do I do with my little Mister Chill? Keep him in, or put him out where mama can find him?
