rose of sharon bushes the same as althea bushes?

I have read on the board some have given rose of sharon branches to chew on. They are closely related to hibiscus. I just want to confirm that they are the same as althea bushes. Some call them rose of sharon, some call them althea. Any info would be great, thanks. Rexies mom
