Hi all! My baby Squeebers came home today terribly beat up. She is thin and has a huge scab on her throat...it looks like it might be getting infected, but I can't hold her still anymore to take a close look as she's too wild. I do have some antibiotics on hand, should I try to administer? And if so how, what types of human medications? Please help as she is still nursing two rambunctious little ones.

If she is still nursing, please be very careful what she gets for AB as it will be also going to her babies. NO Baytril! What do you have on hand?

I'm not sure if I can get a picture. She doesn't sit still very long or let me pet her for too long but I will try

Do you have her inside and recouping with you, or is she with her babies?
OR do you have her babies in with her?

I don't think I'll be able to get her to sit still long enough but I can try. It's been storming here for the last day and she hasn't come out of her nest.

She is outside in her nest with the 2 babies.

I should add that the babies have been coming down to nibble solid foods... they are very big, bigger than what Squeebers was when I found her. She seems like she's having some issues breathing too. Her mouth is partially open when she's sitting still.

Has anyone given you the dose for the Clavamox?
Something very similar happened about a month ago.
While the babies may still be nursing, what we learned from
that experience, is save the Mom first. If the babies are eating
on their own, hopefully the antibiotic will not affect them.
I will write up dosing just in case you need it.
Can you guesstimate a weight on Squeebers?

So sorry you're having this problem! It's tough to feel so needed but yet so helpless!! I've been there, you just don't know WHAT to do!

The breathing with her mouth open really concerns me too.

Rest assured knowing that the seniors on TSB KNOW their stuff! Listen to them.

In my heart and prayers...
Pam
