Toby managed to catch his nail on something and it ripped off. It's barely hanging on but he is in pain. I want to give him something to help with the pain but we also have to somehow get this nail off. Ugh. Is there something I can give him that will help and possibly make him drowsy??

The last time this happened months ago we removed the cage gear and replaced it with new stuff. It's all fleece, so I'm not sure what he caught it on. He does have a nextbox but I doubt that caused this. We found a lot of blood on his hammock, so maybe he caught it on that.

I am trying to get my daughter to send me pics of the meds I have. This is what she's sent me so far:

meloxicam
metacam
tramadol
rescue remedy

OUCH, no advice on how to get it off, unless you use a nail clipper and cut if it's just hanging there.
Even if you have to leave part of the nail, it's better than the whole nail just hanging.
This has to be painful.
For today and tomorrow I would go with the Tramadol and Metacam.
Get a weight and the mg of both when you get a chance.

Okay, I weighed Toby and he's 526g. The metacam I have is the suspension Dr E sent for TW. It's 1.5mg/ml 100ml. I have tramadol and it's 50mg.

Thank you Nancy! Toby has been dosed and we are letting it kick in before we mess with his nail.

I trimmed the nail but it's still partially hanging. He felt lots of discomfort when I touched the foot and it went downhill from there. He's sleepy and glad I'm done messing with his boo boo.

Poor little Toby.:( He just can't catch a break. Angel caught his nails in something one time and nearly ripped two of them off - he was in pain but all I had was ibprophen- I'm glad you have something a little stronger for that sweet boy.:grouphug:Love_Icon

If he needs more pain meds and you don't want to use TWs, meloxicam and metacam are the same - metacam is the brand name.
