So I don't know a whole lot about birds nor can I identify them. Raised a few sparrows but that's it, picked up this little guy today though. Trying to figure out what he is? Thought maybe starling since we have a lot of those around here but he's got these strange like whisker things around his beak? Anyways I've got some cat food soaking in water right now, to all the people who've successfully fed these guys do you use tip of syringe or a chopstick to feed? I've seen both before. Anything at this point is helpful since I know so little. I don't want him to die though and the nature center does not take starlings or sparrows or anything non native. Also is hydration before feeding an issue with these guys? I know I can't just give him water so I didn't know?

Could this be a little robin?
Right, you cannot give him water.
BUT what I sometimes do is take the cat food
after it's soaked and quickly dip it in a cup of water, so
there is just a little more liquid on it.
I always use a tweezers to feed.
If you've raised sparrows you can do this.
Can you post a picture of his belly? Do you see any orange?

His belly barely has any feathers on and and definitely no orange and speckels. In this photo he looks feathered but a majority of him is bare. As I said I'm soaking some cat food now but I have him on a heating pad to get warmed up before I feed him because he felt kind of cold

See, you do know what your're doing! :w00t :) :thumbsup
You could always get some Exact nestling formula. I think that
most pet store sell it, until we determine what he is and
what the proper diet should be. :thinking

Not the greatest lighting on the picture, but he looks like a starling to me. Whatever he is, he'll need the FONS diet. EXACT is only good for baby geese, ducks, Mourning Doves, and Pigeons. The other baby birds should get FONS or other similar high protein diet. I don't do that many birds and I just raise them on Purina Kitten Chow- 1 part dry, one part water and then add in some powdered egg yolk and Avi-Era bird vitamins and yogurt.

Well I've had a few semi successful feeding a last night and this morning but now he's stargazing/twirling so I think there's something bigger going on. I was told he did fall along way from his best and was apparently out there for quite awhile but it's still heartbreaking. Thanks for all the help
