I have a baby raccoon who I am pretty sure has gotten pneumonia.I know this is a forum for squirrels but I have researched for over an hour and all I could find is that you can give them baytril so I was hoping maybe you guys could help me.

When I went to feed her yesterday morning she was cold, breathing badly and you could hear her wheeze . I got her warmed up and gave her electrolytes for 24 hours. All I could figure out to do was give her baytril. I gave her about .2 of a cc of baytril in the back of her mouth followed by water. We asked the vet but he would not give any advice or look at a wild animal. The baytril strength is 100mg per ml and her weight is approximately 600 grams. I am guessing she is about 4.5 weeks old, I have had her for 2 weeks.

Today she was quiet, but still breathing heavy. I put her back on formula today because she had a lot of almost clear urine and she acted hungry. She is still weak and won't suck very good, but she will take the formula. She looked a lot better though.

So now I'm wondering what to do next. It's now been 24 hours since I gave her baytril. Did I do the right thing? Should I give her more and if so how much and for how long? Any advice is much appreciated! Thank you!

When you dose any antibiotic orally it isn't a one shot deal.
They are typically on one for a period of time.

She needs to be dosed a minimum of 5 days, and see how
she's doing after that. If no improvement, then dosing is sometimes extended,
or a different antibiotic used.
I will pm the chart from the WMB book.

Do you have access to Clavamox?
