My three baby squirrels keep digging at the bottom of their container. They are about four weeks old. Do I need to turn the heat up? Or Why are they doing this? If it's just something they do then ok but I just want to make sure they don't need something they are not getting.

Do you have plenty of fleece in with them they can burrow under?

We cut up old pillow cases and bed sheets to put in with them. I have had them since April 15 and they just recently started digging. They feel nice and warm to me so I am hoping that I have them warm enough with the pieces of material that I do have in there with them. I am trying to spend as less money as possible. It was never my plan to raise baby squirrels but I couldn't just let them die. I am trying to use stuff that I already have whenever possible to save money.

If you have a JoAnns fabrics, Hobby Lobby or some other fabric store you can usually buy remnants of fleece for very little money. Also I have found discounted baby blankets at Ross, TJMaxx and the like marked down for clearance for less than $3. Just a thought because although the sheets and pillowcases offer them an opportunity to dig and burrow, they don't provide a cozy warmth for them. I'm always looking for a bargain, hope this helps. :grin3

We are going out shopping for stuff for the squirrels this weekend (stuff to build a bigger cage, more formula, rodent block). So I will stop in some of those stores and see what I can find. Thanks.

Bed sheet type material (unless they are by chance flannel!) is not good bedding for squirrels since they can get twisted up into any loose threads and actually suffocate. The digging in the bottom of the bin demonstrates how much they squirm and a loose thread or two can cause serious injury or even, as I said, death.
