Just got two new little babies... probably 4 weeks or so. Bad pneumonia. We have liquid Albuterol, regular Albuterol for the nebulizer, and Baytril that is injected with a needle.
I can't weigh them just yet, but will do so as soon as possible. What is a safe dosage for the liquid stuff, just a quick little drop in the mouth? How often can we nebulize, in addition to the liquid Albuterol? How often can we inject the Baytril, and how much?
We've taken these on to help our main rehabber, who is going through some physical ailments and just has her hands overloaded. She does not think these little ones will make it, but we want to give it our best shot. If you have any suggestions as to dosage, please feel free to message me! Thanks.

I am not sure about the Albuterol. We will need to have a weight or at very least a picture of them including something like a chapstick or some other thing that we all know the size of for perspective. You should not inject the Baytril in my opinion. It can also be given orally, but we will have to dilute it first.

Could you elaborate on that for me?
We used Baytril with good success last year to save a very sick one... she is doing amazingly well now! We would be much more comfortable giving it orally. Why do you suggest against injecting it? And what kind of dilution are you talking about?
Thanks!

mgee76, I'm sorry you didn't get much help but there aren't many here that use the injectable form of Baytril. There are 2 concentration I believe... a 5% and 10%. Baytril injectable is very caustic and can cause tissue damage if injected or if given orally, especially the 10%. It has to be diluted with sterile saline or LRS if injected. It would also need to be diluted if given orally also. I would guess that diluting with water would be fine for ORAL dosing only.
Because I've never used it, I really can't dose it because I'm not familiar with the proper method. I hope someone in your contacts was able to help you.
The albuterol will help open up the airway when nebulized but again I'm not familiar with dosing it. I do know that it speeds up the heart rate so you might want to watch for that. You might find dosing info on the albuterol on The Rat Guide. It also mentions the injectable Baytril but doesn't give specific diluting information.

The Baytril we have is listed as injectable, for Dogs, and the dilution is listed at 2.27%.
Do you think this is acceptable for oral administration? If not, please advise on how to proceed! We lost one of them last night. Really want to keep the little lady alive. Thank you.

Since we are having trouble with the dilution, do you by any chance have any Cipro? It is a human drug - basically it is the human equivalent of Baytril, and is commonly given to people for urinary tract infections. If you can get your hands on a single Cipro (ciprofloxacin) pill and provide us with the size in milligrams, we can help you...

Baytril 2.27% is the standard we use...22.7mg/ml...just like WMB says - for those helping you dose.
