I watched 2 small squirrels fall out of my tree yesterday. The one was snatched up by the neighbors cat within seconds. I have the other one. I put it in a soft sided cooler with a 2l bottle of warm water and tried to get it to drink some watered down Apple juice from a syringe, but it doesn't want to do anything but make cute noises and and curl up next to the warm watter bottle.

The mother is usually out all day tearing up my bird feeder and drinking from my fish pond. Nowhere to be seen today.

Any advise on how to get this thing to drink? Or if there is someone close by that can either show me what I need to do or take it with the aim to rehab and release? 272109

You should contact Nature's Nursery! I am friends with most of their crew and they're great! The phone number is: (419) 877-0060

A Facebook friend said they know a rehabber pretty close to my house. If that doesn't go anywhere, I will give nature's nursery a call. Thanks.

I hope you find help for this little, please keep us updated.
As far as the "neighbor's cat" I would have been hell on wheels itself chasing
that cat down! Have you looked to see if it's not laying somewhere suffering?
That poor baby....

I'm with you SNS...the cat would have had a "significant emotional event" associated with that baby squirrel grab!:bang

Well I got the little runt to a liscenced wildlife rehabilitation place. The lady said it was only 4 to 5 weeks old and really dehydrated, but she knew just what to do and said that it will probably be fine. She has released over 200 squirrels in the last year.

So I'm not a squirrel nut like most of you, but I have a soft spot for critters and can't just let them die if I can help it. So thanks for having this site, so I at least knew enough to keep it warm and calm and make an attempt at hydration.

I might even volunteer at her place a few hours a week just to learn a little something. She said that there is always poop of some kind to clean up and even 4 hours a week is great because she does it all by herself.
