He was eating alright till this am. No bowel movements except a very little last night. he just seems to sleep a lot...HELP is there anything I can do , I can't lose him He is such a precious little grey tree squirrel.

Good news is the powdered Esbilac is probably just fine. The Esbilac issue was from several years ago and they have changed the ingredients. Check the ingredients on your can and confirm the third ingredient is "dried whey protein concentrate"... if it is, you have the right stuff!
Are you stimulating him to potty every time you feed him? Is he bloated? Can you post a picture? How long have you had him and long long since he last pooped?
Sorry for all the questions, but it will help us help you. :thumbsup

Bushwacker,
:Welcome to TheSquirrelBoard
Here is a link that will give you some information about raising baby squirrels.
It is 6 pages long. The next button is on the top right.

It's normal for baby squirrels to sleep a lot. I do get concerned when their appetite drops off. I'm always worried about aspiration of formula. It can cause pneumonia. Lack of appetite and clicking are symptoms of aspiration pneumonia. I'm just throwing this out there so you will be aware. Hold him up to your ear and listen to him breath. If you hear clicks, that is an urgent situation.
Are you using a syringe to feed the baby? You need a 1cc syringe. They will usually give you one at a pharmacy if you tell them it's for an orphan animal. Don't say it's for a squirrel because possession of a squirrel is illegal in most states.

The Esbilac with Probiotics is safe to feed squirrels.
If you just got the babies it may take a few days of
eating the formula before a bowl movement is made.

I read something about giving them a little apple juice to get things going {bowel movement} again... All of you are awesome on here and my friends they all think I am squirrel crazy but I have read some of posts and yes there is people like me { I new there was} " Once you love a squirrel you are never the same " I think, I know it makes you better... Here's my little buddy. He fell out of a 60+ palm tree and miraculously survived with out a scratch. Good thing I hadn't mowed for almost a week so the tall grass cushioned his fall. The Good LORD was looking out for him no doubt !!!

Yep, you found us... all the squirrel nuts in the world right here in one place! :grin2
Your baby is so sweet. Is the belly cream colored or orange? The arms look a little orange to me. I know there are a lot of fox squirrels in your state. Either way, he's precious.
Loving a squirrel does make you better. :tilt It opens a whole new world to you. You will never see the world around you and nature the same again. It will open you to a new level of compassion. When you see one of God's creatures suffering you'll
never be able to walk away again. Yes, it changes you. :)

It appears white to me ... I helped a lady down the street with a baby and it's underside is tangerine and his head is shaped differently. I know he's a fox squirrel , but mine I'm not so sure. For one his tail is much longer and just gray and white... There is quite a mix of squirrels around here, there are fox squirrel, grey squirrels, some black squirrels and I've heard of a few that are all white. Even got some area's that have ground squirrel's {aka beechey I think that's how it's spelled } that reside on a golf course in the ruff. They seem to know only to dig there. I will take more picture's with my phone when i can. Here are some photo's of the squirrel I use to have until an ex-girlfriend of mine give him away to a wildlife center, and I tried and tried to get him back to no avail. He's a ground squirrel that the mother had apparently abandoned. That lady my ex-girlfriend gave him to, she still has him with her hundred's of miles away. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of him...His name is Rascal... In these photo's he is watching t.v.

He's probably a grey if the belly is white. I just thought his paws looked a little orange. My goodness... a tangerine belly... that would be so awesome. I've seen pics of some like that.
What is it with ex's? You're the second person I've heard about recently that was turning in by an Ex. The other one reported them to wildlife officers. I have NO ex's but if I did those would be 'fighting' words.
How is your baby today?

He is eating well and is urinating on his own { On me but that's ok with me } His belly is not bloated and he don't appear to be in any pain... I would just like to see him poop...

When whisper was a kitten she had a major constipation issue. We used polyethylene glycol, brand name Miralax, by adding a little to her formula. It worked very well. I would not use it on a squirrel unless someone else here can confirm it is safe to administer Miralax to squirrels, but my guess would be that it is safe.

Just an fyi dont know if anyone else said it or not... but my 9 babies eat the Esbilac puppy formula with heavy whipping cream and all natural yogurt. They started off on this. Now i still use all that but also i do a 50/50 mix of the Esbilac and fox valley 32/40 and they are all doing really good on that and have put on weight needed and have regular bowel movements.

Miralax seems to be safe for rats, so it is probably safe for squirrels too (its a pretty benign substance). If you want to try it, I would add a small pinch to the formula you feed the little one. It works by keeping moisture in the stool, and drawing more moisture into the stool, so good hydration is important.

Since you've had a baby before unsure if you are aware of this but the first "solid" food
your baby should be introduced to is a good quality rodent block. You will want them to
be eating that and eating it well before introducing other foods. For now it's formula is it's
protection against mbd, once your baby weens itself a good quality rodent block becomes
that protection.
