Hi all....

I have three gray babies that are 5 weeks old. They just opened their eyes.
They wouldn't poop well on Esbilac, only pooping once a day and it was dry, so I switched them over to Fox Valley. Things got better for a few days and they were pooping great, but now I have the opposite problem and their poop is very runny.

I added some yogurt and it seemed to really help at first, but now it's just back to runny again.

They are not dehydrated, but it's obvious their little tummies are upset. I feed them with a 1cc syringe. Two babies weigh just over 100grams and eat 6cc's and the other is 65grams and eats 3ccs.

What the heck am I doing wrong? What else can I try?

I have antibiotics but am trying to not have to use that if I don't have to.

Appreciate any suggestions. They're not eating solids yet, so I can't try oatmeal.

Hang in There---Good Advice will be here soon.
I haven't had a baby squirrel in years, so I do not have advice of my own to offer... (I have 5 adult fuzz-heads)
When is your next scheduled feeding time ???

Next feeding time is at 7pm ( a little over an hour ). They are playing right now, so they don't seem sick at all. Just runny poop.

I have heard it mentioned on here that you can add a touch of rice baby cereal to their formula. The rice should help with the loose stools. Just make sure it's not too thick for them to swallow and go slow since it's a new texture. It may take a few days to see a difference. You can also offer some probiotics. I purchased a powdered probiotic from a feed store, but Henry's Healthy Pets offers Benepac probiotic online and you might also find it at some pet stores. It is a gel and my little guy loved it and would muck it straight down. The probiotics are good for their intestines just follow any instructions about dosing. I hope this helps and good luck. :w00t

I added a little canned pumpkin to my babies formula when they had diarrhea and it really helped. Make sure to get the pure pumpkin and not the pie mix if you decide to try it. Also, the rice I would use is baby rice cereal if I was going that route. Hope you little ones tummy issues clear up soon.

How often do you feed?

I feed a 50/50 mix of esbilac and fv 20/50. Maybe the combo would help. :dono Baby food sweet potato added to formula is also good for binding as is yogurt. Just be sure there is no sugar substitute in the yogurt.

I was feeding every 4 hours, but now they seem to do better every 5 hours.

I did try the 50/50 Esbilac/ Fox Valley combo and it seemed to help. Now I just have one ( who was my good pooper before ) who has the runs. But it's not too bad that he gets dehydrated. He's putting on weight every day.
