Toby is bleeding, I saw what I thought was dried blood on his foot last night but he had eaten blueberries, so after inspecting the cage real good for signs of blood I assumed it was the fruit on him.
Lauri calls me a few minutes ago in a total panic. She says there is blood all over him and she can tell he's hurting. He's lying down on his shelf but he goes into panic mode when you try to pick him up. She can't see any visible injuries. The blood is all over the cage. She's there by herself right now and he can be pretty wild when you try to hold him. Is there anything she can give him to help calm him down so she can figure out where he's bleeding from?

The last pic looked like his nails weren't there but she says it just looks like they are folded back towards his hand. I don't know if he injured them or not but she says they look okay.
The blood I saw last night was on the bottom of his back feet.

The only thing I can think of is that perhaps he scratched himself or had his nail caught on something? It's so hard to tell with the blood in different spots. :( In that one picture, it almost looks like a few small cuts under his neck.
Do you have any resume remedy? If so, have her rub some on his paw pads and his ears. That will help calm him down some. The only other thing I can think of is Benadryl to calm him if you think she would be able to dose it?
Edit: I just realized this is Toby, not TW :tilt

Infant Ibuprofen would be good for the pain and may calm him a little as well. When they get their nails caught on something they tend to jerk and cause injury to their paw. My Angel did this once and there was blood but I couldn't tell what had happened at first. The ibuprofen helped him a lot with the pain.

I think he ripped a nail out. Not sure how he did that unless he got it caught in his cube. He loves to dig in there and it has that white fuzzy faux fur looking interior. I bet he got it caught in that. We placed that cube in there temporarily until his other one was washed and dried.
I'm only assuming that's the issue but I have lauri looking at every square inch of his cage to make sure nothing is wrong with it that could hurt him like this.

Poor little Toby. :( Yes, that is very painful for them. Angel cried quite a bit when he nearly ripped out two nails. But he healed up fairly quickly and I am praying Toby will also. :grouphug:Love_Icon

Is Toby missing his little pinkie nail? I put a green arrow where I don't see a nail.
I know with the sherpa lined cubes this can happen, just like it can in fleece.
BUT with the cubes, they are "stationary" and when they can't move, they PULL.
Do you have any little pinch points on the cage.
When Owena was here, she had a seizure and got her nail caught on one of those
pinch points I think, and ripped her nail out. Yeah, startling how much blood can come
out of a missind nail. :eek

There aren't any pinch points in the cage, I putting my money on the cube he was using. He has a fleece one but we took it out last night to wash it and Lauri was going to put it back in there today. It has that "sherpa" lining and I noticed the last time he was using it, the bottom looked "thin" where he had been digging at it. The cube has been removed and he is now resting. Poor little thing, he looks pitiful and I was told he still acts like it hurts him.

It is also possible that he broke a finger if he was trying to yank it free. Poor little fuzzbutt, I hope he feels better soon!:grouphug

If he will tolerate a bath, you might be able to determine where he might be bleeding from when all the dried blood is gone. Poor thing. As vocal as these guys are you would think he would have been screaming. I know I would have been.:sad I hope he heals quickly. :hug Sara you definitely don't need anything else on your plate :Love_Icon Bless your heart :Love_Icon

I would give him some ibuprofen . Just use the chart and his weight. Or give us his weight and we can dose it for Lauri.
Geez...you just can't catch a break!!! :grouphug

I think the blood may have been from the missing nail. :dono

Oh poor Toby. Willimina did that once. Poor baby looked like a minor charactor in a chain saw massacre movie. She'd caught a toenail. She looked so pitiful but next day she was back to her old self. Hopefully Toby's owie will be temporary and quickly forgotten.

Once Ratatoskr jumped about six feet and missed his spot, bashing his poor little face on the wood chair leg instead of his nice padded perch. Blood everywhere, I guess his teeth did the splay thing and gouged inside his mouth. He gets up and starts running all over blood down his front wiping long horrific blood trails down the couches and I had no idea what the hell was happening.
Even when I coaxed him over and washed him I found nothing, it wasn't until he flinched when I washed his muzzle I realized. I did that 'press test' all over to check bones and so on to see when he flinched. Just one side of his mouth. I tried to see inside, but those cheeks roll in and I felt bad trying to pull on his cheeks with big clumsy fingers- he was scared to anything not my hands and my fingers were too fig to get a good grip inside so no luck there, but he was ok on his jawbones, gums and when I wiggled his teeth thank goodness. Perhaps you could to the press test after his towel bath and see what is sore?
