Hello everyone, :grouphug

I need help with Rocky (16 month/595 g) might have a UTI? Not sure what to do?
I just noticed that today his penis area is a little swollen at the tip and dried. He is drinking water and peeing but he is in discomfort/pain when I try to handle him. He's eating (Henry's block plus veggies, fruits) and poops ok. What can I do to aliviate his discomfort or start him on any AB' please advise......I'll be posting pics next.

Even though I haven't logged in in a looooooooooong time I'm always lurking reading TSB on a daily basis. Waiting and praying on Dezzy's outcome.

Thank you all,
Lillian

Do you have any infant ibuprofen? What antibiotics do you have? Does there seem to be a scab on the tip of his penis? If so, the best thing to do is to soak it with warm water to get it to come off.

Hi Gayle,:hug

Thanks for responding, yes I have the following antibiotics:
Cipro 500mg
Augmentin 875mg
SUlfameth/Trimethoprim
I just bought infant ibuprofen 50mg/1.25 mls ( I have 1 cc's) not sure how much to give him?
The tip of his penis seems dry maybe its a scab. Can I use a soaked warm cotton ball to wipe him or should I soak him? I have not given him any pain meds yet.

Could he have done this to himself? Boy squirrels CAN and DO that to themselves, and I am wondering if you have seen him, um, going at it? An actual scab may not be anything related to a UTI.

I would hold a cotton ball soaked in warm water on his penis as long as you can, then gently wipe, wipe. You are trying to soften the scab as much as possible (soaking it as long as you can) and then gently rub it away. The scab can block the tip of the penis preventing them from being able to pee, which obviously is a problem.

If you get it open and feel he is showing UTI symptoms, the Cipro you have is usually a very quick cure.

Excellent advice Crittermom! If you have a q-tip, you can sort of roll it across the tip of his penis to loosen the scab/ Not really "across" as much as down toward the tip with a rolling motion to dislodge the scab.
Check to see if his bladder feels very full. It is sort of in the middle, but slightly to his right or your left if he is facing you.
