Alix is just shy of 5 months. We have had her sunce she was 5 weeks and have fed her Henry's formula and now the Henry's food blocks. She had been on the formula and rat/mouse blocks until we finally started switching over to the Henry's. She gets broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms and the occasional green bean, meal worm, etc. we follow the Henry's pyramid chart. We have noticed recently that she is getting thinner hair on her backside. Doe anyone know what this could be from? She is the only squirrel we have now and gets out of her cage for several hours a day to run around and climb and play. We just want to make sure she is not starting anything major as she will be inside all winter here in Ohio. Any help is appreciated!! 266082

She's adorable! She may be molting. If her skin where the fur is thinning is not red and irritated looks, it is probably that she is molting and her fur will come back on its own. Keep an eye on it and let us know if it starts to look like her skin is also irritated.

For sure no redness or irritations. I will keep an eye on it. It is just starting and i just don't want to let it go without making sure she was ok. Will her whole body molt or just some areas?

I've never over wintered a squirrel before either & get to this year with my 8-month boy Jasper, & while he hasn't molted, his fur did change noticeably in color & texture recently. It went from brown to gray, & it has gotten much softer. He never got raggedy looking or lost any patches of hair. Glad your girly isn't red, itchy, or irritated! Let us know if hair starts regrowing.
