I was just given 10 pounds of Body Fortress Super Advanced Whey Protein. Both Chocolate and Vanilla. I'm working on the comparison to Henry's whey protein right now.

Here's what I have. Does anyone know if this is safe without the finished comparison?

Here's the comparison. I was wondering if I could do a combination 50/50 of Henry's protein and this flavored stuff?

Some time ago I was really into fitness/workout supplements. I got to use quite a few diff. Types of protein drinks and such, and had to do some research on them.

What I found out (and the reason I no longer use any) is that virtually every protein powder intended for body builders/fitness junkies contains additives/even steroids to enhance, because no protein by itself will help with massive and rapid and impressive gains ( working out correctly helps, but without enhancers one won't get to a competitive level bc everyone competitive uses some sort of enhancers).

Don't remember the details now, but there is something about rather lax/imprecise standards in terms of labelling and disclosing all ingredients (kind of similar to labčling "organic" and "natural"). So as a result protein powder manufsctures have loopholes due to which they can avoid listing everything that goes into making the powder

So personally wouldn't use any protein that is intended for bodybuilding.
All the hidden compounds are very dangerous, have cumulative effect and usually produce long-term harm (I.e., won't see it right away, but at one pt. down the road).
Especially, for a little animal of a diff. Species.

So personally - wouldn't use it.

I can't get a very good look at the pic on my phone, but I see there is a " super recovery blend" - that's the extra "boost" of amino acids needed to help "torn" muscle tissue to recover. Messing up with amino acids is never a good idea , and besides - the ratio/quantity of these acids are for a working out human. Most likely not good for a little sq.
also I can't get a good look but I think it says on the can "enhanced" with something - not good. A little sq. definitively doesn't need to be "enhanced".

And sucralose is not good either.

So again - wouldn't use it.

Not much fiber. May cause constipation. Other than that, I would have to defer to someone with more experience.

Thank you so much Astra and Rocky! I didn't realize all the junk in them! :eek Steroids, messing with the ratios and everything, ouch. I never was good at science :embar

Around the same time I posted this thread I emailed Henry's and got this additional info:

Unfortunately, like most protein powders, this one contains artificial sweeteners. These are toxic to rodents, so I wouldn’t use it at all.
Regards,
Leigh

I didn't realize these were toxic to our fuzzies either!!

You're absolutely welcome, DL!

These supplements can be very deceiving.
In addition to all of the above, very often protein powders are spiked. Often they do not deliver even half the amount of protein they claim to have and are filled with all sorts of bad fillers.

So, it's always good to check before using. :thumbsup
