My two little guys are going to be moving to a cage to transition for a release in a month or so. They have pretty much weaned themselves off of formula and are eating vegetables and protein blocks and drinking from a water bowl. They have been in a big Tupperware container, but now jump out every time I feed them. Or climb my arm, whichever they feel is fastest. I want to put them in a cage so they can see the world better. We're going to start taking field trips to the yard together in the cage so they can see the outside well before they're released. We have the nesting box ready for that fateful day also. My question is what do I use as bedding in their cage? We've been using tee shirts in their Tupperware, but I think we should probably change. Any suggestions? Do I put something more natural so they can learn to make their own nests? Also, (I know it's a lot of questions) I read that in the colder states if you can't release them by September you should wait until spring. Would that be true for Georgia or can I still release them in a month or so? And is it natural for me to be dreading the day of release because I'm worried about them doing it alone. I do believe in release - I think I'm just being an overprotective mommy!😊❤️🐾

They are about 3-4 months old we think.

This is the one time I will use hay in their nest box, its easy to clean out and gets the job done.
You can always place some torn paper towels and leafs from the yard in the the bottom of the
cage for them to add the nest as they wish..... it helps with their building skills.

And yes... it is perfectly fine for you to be fretting over your babies so much as the release day
gets closer to happening. We have all been there before you and have felt the sadness.

Pat yourself on the back and know you have done a good job MOM!! :Love_Icon
