Hi forum; my 4 years old male Easter Gray 'Trooper' is enjoying his life as much as we can possibly offer, healthy and with large area for running and playing both indoor and outdoors (caged). However, occasionally after a nap or sleep overnight, he would wake up with his RIGHT eyelids fully or partially stuck or glued together. He would then wake up and rub with the side of his right paw trying to get it open. Sometimes (if not all the times) when I have seen this, I get him out and he becomes the most docile patient and lets me use a Petco ophthalmic solution to lighly soften the eyelids open with a cotton swab.

Upon opening, I have inspected the insides of both top and botom eyelids, surrounding areas, lacrimal corner/gland and they have always looked the same as the other eye, which almost never gets this problem. In other words after opening, nobody could tell or say they were shut or have any signs of being sick.

We have thought of allergies, but are perplexed at the fact that it is the same eye. He has in all sleeping quarters the fully synthetic pillow stuffing reccommended in TSB, and I have replaced it several times for new and fresh stuffing, just in case there was some allergen in the old one.

As a preventative manner, is there anything I can try that I haven't to determine what is causing it? Any specific ointment or ophthalmic medication or AB that I should apply next time it occurs?

I have not placed any pictures because his eye, eyelid, and surrounding areas all look normal (no eyelid inflamation, supuration, tears, oozing, etc.). he just gets his lids stuck closed and after they open up, he has no further trauma, he does not scratch or rub his eye afterwards.

Any comments will be appreciated,

Trooper's dad,

How are Trooper's teeth - specifically the bottom teeth. Are they the right length? Does he easily get into hard shelled nuts?

This same thing happens to Angel, my two year old male from time to time as well - and it is also almost always in the same eye... I just thought it was "sleep" in his eye so to speak, like the gunk humans get sometimes, but I never see any and none of my other squee have ever had that, so I did think that was a bit odd. :thinking

Trooper's teeth are O.K. right length and he roes on antlers and sea shells. Sharp as a knife too!

Are his teeth a cause for his stuck eye?

Thanks,
