Hi! I am in search of a rehabber in the Central Texas / Bell County area who can take an adorable 5 week old baby boy fox squirrel. I would prefer a known and experienced licensed rehabber who has another single who needs a companion or that has a litter that he can join. From what I unserstand from all the research I have done he will need to be wintered. I am willing to travel within a reasonable distance to deliver him to the right person

I have had him for a little over 3 weeks after my dog brought him to me one night. I was shocked that the only injury he sustained from this adventure was a laceration to his pinkie finger which has healed nicely. He also had some tiny yellow insect eggs on him that I immediately removed off him. I warmed him up, rehydrated him and started him on Esbilac with probiotics. I attempted the next day to return him to his momma to no avail so I have been caring for him with the wonderful, helpful and knowledgeable guidance obtained from your site. Thank you!!!!! I have not given him a name yet. I some how thought it would keep me from getting attached but I can admit now that it did not work lol. I currently do lovingly call him "monkey bear". He is healthy and thriving. He weighs 98 grams and is growing everyday. It is amazing how fast they change. I am feeding him 4-6 cc's of Esbilac with probiotics every 4 hours. I use a syringe with an elongated nipple on it to feed him. His urine is clear to light yellow and he poops brownish yellow pellets about every other feeding. The laceration he had on his pinkie healed up nicely. At the end of the first week he had some dry / peeling skin. Before I was able to get it corrected his tail had developed an open crack about a 1/2" below his rectum and then he had a few accidents of loose stools at the same time causing it to become infected :( With diligent care and attention it is slowly healing. It still has a few scabbed areas that will fall off when ready but it is 95% better.

I am not caring for him to keep him as a pet. I believe he deserves to be out in the trees living the happy squirrel life :) I am very attached to him and would like nothing more than to rehab him to release in my own backyard so I can continue to enjoy his precious antics but I fear for his safety from my 2 large dogs after being hand raised. I currently keep him locked away in my room because I have a houseful of his predators, 2 large dogs and 3 cats, one which is a stray tom cat I recently took in who would like nothing more than to eat him :( Right now he is just doing the baby thing, eating, sleeping & pottying but I am not sure how I would be able to provide an enriching environment for him to continue to flourish in while locked behind closed doors. There is also the fear of him getting out of my room and one of my other fur babies getting to him first :(

Anyhow, I would like to try and provide him with a better environment to continue in his rehab towards being released back into the wild. I believe an experienced rehabber that has another baby squirrel or squirrels would be the best thing for him. Any help towards helping me find this for him would be greatly appreciated :) Thank you!

Found something but... I have never worked with this group, and would call them to confirm their policy (that they would take in a baby squirrel, raise, and release it) before working with them, if they are near enough to you, http://txmetrowildlife.org/?c=home

Come to think of it, hold off for just a little bit, to see if someone else on here personally KNOWS a rehabber near you. If not, that may be an option.
