I am helping a girl off the board who has taken in a foxer girl. The little one was found cornered by a cat a month or so ago. She was taken in, dosed with Cipro, and has been doing well. She is totally blind - the cataracts are easy to see in her eyes. We believe she is an old girl - she was emaciated when found - her blindness was obviously not only preventing her from being able to find food, it also was about to doom her to death. She is eating well now - she gets her HHBs every day and is absolutely addicted to ensure - she LOVES it and gets her "ba ba" a couple times a day as well as a few greens, etc.
She popped up with some crusty areas that were itching her a few weeks ago and thinking it was likely mange making an appearance due to her poor condition at intake, and she has had 2 treatments of ivermectin so far. It is not getting better, and the crusty areas have a yellow, scaly appearance, and clumps of the scaly skin stick to hair clumps that are coming out. I suggested wiping the areas down with betadyne solution, but it is very difficult to do this enough and to saturate them enough to really get any relief - she IS a wild. It also seems to be spreading.
Pyoderma??
WMB suggests either clavamox or clindamycin orally for this. Which is the best choice? Does anyone think this could be anything else? This little girl has ended up with someone who will provide her with a loving home to spend her senior years in - their first act was to run out to buy her an air conditioner so she would be comfy! I would really like to get this resolved for her!
BTW, the blue thing in the pic is a bit of her fleecy blanket!
