Hello!

We were busy feeding Peanut today when the postal carrier delivered my order of Henry's Healthy Blocks. I gave one to Peanut and he really liked it! I was thrilled :bliss because he was not digging the rodent block. I mean, he would nibble on those, but he didn't really like them. I also got him an antler today, and he seemed to really like the antler a lot as well It wasn't a deer antler, but an elk. Does that matter much?

Along with getting the HHB, my order of FV 20/50 arrived. Wouldn't you know I went out and bought a new can of Esbilac, not knowing when the FV would arrived. :sanp3 My question is how do I make the transition from Esbilac to FV 20/50? I've made some of the FV and prepared a bottle for the next feeding with three parts Esbilac to one part FV. Is this acceptable? Is it still necessary to use the heavy whipping cream, or do I need that only for the Esbilac? Should I do a combo of 50/50 with the following feeding, or should I wait a day (or two)? I've also seen where people use both the Esbilac and the FV 20/50. Is this what is recommended or should I transition him over to strictly the FV 20/50 formula?

Questions, questions, questions!

:thankyou

Transitioning to a New Formula
You will need to do the transition gradually...

OF - Old Formula / NF - New Formula

Day 1-2 ... 75% OF to 25% NF

Day 3-4 ... 50% OF to 50% NF

Day 5-6 ... 25% OF to 75% NF

Day 7 ...... Full NF - New Formula

Please go slow as not to upset the squirrels stomach

using a ratio mix of 2:1 (2 part water - 1 part formula) 3:1 can be use if to thick

Are you feeding him with a bottle?
We always suggest using syringes and nipples as they can aspirate
too easily when drinking from a bottle.
We also suggest that the squirrel be in an upright position,
with the nipple facing towards the roof of his mouth.
By upright, I mean not laying down on his back.
You can either set him on his little butt, or place him
belly down on a blanket and feed that way. :thumbsup

Just an example of how to hold upright.

OK now he's just showing off, how he can do it himself. :rolf

Tummy feeding.
Typically when I feed this way, I cover them with a piece of fleece so they don't get spooked.
I took the fleece off to show the little squirrel.

Thank you, Nancy! That's quite a little cutie you have there!

Yes, we use a syringe. When I said bottle, I only meant that I mixed up enough formula for 24 hours and put it into a bottle. I the pour out from that bottle into another bottle to heat up the formula, heating only what I need for that feeding. I only use hot water from the tap to warm that bottle.

GREAT pictures of feeding, though. I'm sure there are others, besides myself, that will benefit from the illustrations!
